Today marks #WorldSightDay – a day we shine a light on the importance of building stronger eye care.

My lived experience as someone born with a visual impairment has profoundly shaped my career & my drive to deliver better results for those born or diagnosed with a sight condition today.

I’m proud that my Pension Credit campaign has helped older Londoners unlock £40m in unclaimed support.

Too many Londoners are still missing out. I’m urging Londoners to use City Hall’s Cost of Living Hub to check their entitlements to benefits: www.london.gov.uk/programmes-s...

They have been calling for a visa scheme to bring their family members to safety.
I would be grateful if you would provide an urgent update on whether the Government will create a Gaza Family Visa scheme.
Yours sincerely,

and journalists have been killed. Israel’s restrictions on aid have led to a famine. There continues to be no safe place for civilians in Gaza. British citizens and residents with family members in Gaza are understandably terrified that their relatives will be killed.
marshadecordova.bsky.social
It is more urgent than ever that we help the family members of British citizens and residents currently trapped in Gaza. As we know, in Gaza, 65,419 people are reported to have been killed and 167,160 injured. Critical infrastructure has been destroyed, while medics, rescue workers, teachers

Dear Prime Minister and Home Secretary,

I am writing to follow up on my letter of 29 June 2025, signed by 67 Parliamentarians, calling for a Gaza Family Scheme to enable Palestinians in Gaza to reunite with their loved ones in the UK.

I have written to the Prime Minister to press the Government on the importance of a Gaza Family Scheme, for family members to be reunited with British-Palestinian family members in the UK.

18,457 children have been killed by Israel's genocide in Gaza.

The next steps remain the same: Sanction Israeli Govt ministers, end all arms sales to Israel, ban trade with Israel's illegal settlements & suspend economic & military cooperation with Israel.

My statement on the second anniversary of the 7 October attacks.
Two years on from the horrific terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, we remember all the innocent victims whose lives were cruelly stolen by Hamas.

Our thoughts are also with the families whose loved ones were callously murdered, as well as with the hostages who disgracefully remain in captivity and must be released immediately.

October 7 was the single deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust and a profoundly painful experience for London’s Jewish communities. We must never forget this atrocity, nor the deep distress and grief it has caused many Londoners.

As the vile terrorist attack on Heaton Park synagogue in Manchester last Thursday demonstrated, we still have far more to do to tackle the poison of antisemitism and drive it out of our society.

Our Jewish communities must be able to live, work and worship freely – without the fear of harassment, discrimination, intimidation or violence. The fact they are currently unable to shows we must work much harder to stamp out antisemitism wherever it rears its ugly head. We must never allow conflict overseas to divide us at home. As Mayor, I will continue my work to promote inter-faith dialogue and build bridges between our different religious communities. Whether it’s antisemitism or any other form of bigotry, London has no place for those who seek to sow the seeds of hate.

On this solemn anniversary, we must also acknowledge the suffering and trauma since 7 October 2023. Like so many others, my heart aches for the tens of thousands of innocent civilians in Gaza who have been killed and the families who have been torn apart.

Today, more than ever, I pray that the cycle of terror, killing and bloodshed that has engulfed the region can soon be brought to an end; that the surviving hostages can be set free; that vital humanitarian aid can flow into Gaza; and that Israelis and Palestinians can one day live side-by-side in two states and in peace.

⛪ Cathedrals are not just places of worship but also a key part of our cultural heritage & history.

That's why it was great to sit down with the @Association of Cathedrals to discuss how we can better support the work of cathedrals & ensure they have a bright future ahead.

🌹 Great to be out and about in #Balham, speaking to residents about the issues that matter to them.

With Council elections coming up in 2026, we’ll be asking people what they want to see more of from their Council

We’re ready to champion these changes – to make sure that the public is aware of them, as we did so successfully with the requirement to wear seatbelts thirty years ago. We’d welcome the chance to share this experience with you and discuss how we can work together.
marshadecordova.bsky.social
We’re ready to help you with this. Some of us have experience of how this works, from London and Scotland. Others have testimonials from our lived experience, our constituents and our time as councillors.

within the bill. It’s a simple change, giving all councils the same powers that others have. At the same time, it’d make a real difference to people’s lives.
marshadecordova.bsky.social
The English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill provides an ideal opportunity to deliver these powers. This would live up to the bill’s principles and match the approach you are taking to micromobility
marshadecordova.bsky.social
As the English Devolution White Paper acknowledged, enforcing against pavement parking is a key power that councils outside London are missing.
marshadecordova.bsky.social
Our constituents are asking for action. Our councils – and the Local Government Association – are calling for the powers they need to deliver.
marshadecordova.bsky.social
But a response was never released by the previous Government. On 22 November 2025, our government can, and should, change that, by responding to the consultation.
marshadecordova.bsky.social
On 22 November 2020, the Conservative consultation on pavement parking closed. Over the past five years, your department has done considerable policy work on the suggested changes, aided by input from councils and others. We know it works.
marshadecordova.bsky.social
The rest of the country has been held back because councils haven’t been trusted with the same powers. The onerous process they have to use is ineffective, as you and your department have pointed out.
