There are many excuses for failing to tax the ultra-wealthy. The truth is that governments don’t tackle the problem because they don’t want to, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

JWST captured a missing link in galaxy evolution: the time when their central black holes began to form. These young, fast-eating black holes look a lot different than expected, creating the enigmatic Little Red Dots.

There is no money for that either.

This huge site would (IMO) be a good site for a modular nuclear planet. It's 750 MW, but we discussed this one specifically and it will never be a coal plant again. it just needs too much work for that.

In Giles County, officials hope to breathe new life into an old coal power plant
The Glen Lyn plant, which opened in 1919, has been sitting vacant for almost a decade. Whether, and how, it might be repurposed is the subject of a new study.

Plato passes vibe check ✅

The spacecraft was vigorously shaken to mimic the powerful jolts and vibrations that Plato will experience during launch.

The vibration tests are part of a series of tough exams that Plato has to pass to graduate for launch 👉 www.esa.int/ESA_Multimed...

Well, maybe. I've learned from talking with a colleague at the school of mines that here in SW Virginia / West Virginia (AKA "the Virginias")

- all of the standby coal fired plants that can be have been brought up to full power for AI
- others will require years of work, and there is no $ for that.

As you can probably tell from that, getting the CI to a interstellar object will take a fair amount of luck. People are already working on ISO interceptors to make this more likely.

It could not have reached 3I/ATLAS in its actual orbit even if it have been on station July 1, 2025. If 3I had had the exact same orbit but came by 6 months earlier and if it had been discovered Jan. 1, 2025, & the Comet Interceptor had been on station at that time, then I think it could have been.

And, according to Michael Kueppers today at the SBAG meeting, that will gain a little delta-V for the mission.
