Q5: I have gained a renewed sense of connection with the QI tribe which I missed from the other place. I think I will do more exploring of the values of the project team in the early stages of a project and note them so we can refer to them.

Q4 I think the community can provide the support to help us maintain our values when all of the conflicts discussed come our way. #QIsky

I think project leads worry that they won’t be able to deliver what staff or patients tell them the want. Instead they need to see it as the start of a dialogue and sometimes compromise. #qisky

Q2 this is always a fine line to tread. I think it comes from experiences where the quick win turns out not to be so quick when the change is not sustained and you have to go back to take people with you and undo any harm done.

My top three tips are: Don’t be fearful about what patients or staff might say to you
; be curious and open to all comments; always ask yourself where is the patient or staff’s voice in this #qisky

I think this demonstrates its importance.

Q1 Id also been doing it without the tool kit. Also as a therapist the approach of QI chimes with the way we work with therapeutically with patients. #qisky

Q1 For me I think it is inclusion. It has always been an important part of my clinical work and as someone involved in change in the NHS over many years I know the importance of including patients and staff in improvement. #qisky

The building blocks to quality improvement that form the roots of most projects.

While the tools and techniques on top of them may vary depending on the context, these foundational elements are essential to successful and sustainable improvement:

Without psychological safety in improvement work, it simply doesn’t stick. You can have the best tools, the smartest people, and the boldest ideas, but if people don’t feel safe to speak up, challenge the norm, or admit when something isn’t working… nothing really changes.

In improvement work, clarity of language is foundational. When we throw around terms like transformation, innovation, or QI without a shared understanding, we create organisational static

The simple act of sharing ideas can unlock unprecedented change across organisations & systems. If we want high-performing, productive people, building a culture of ideas-sharing is a big priority:

Varifocals for the win! My final straw was trying to wear my reading and distance glasses balanced on top of each other in a meeting trying to go between a presentation and notes! Not my finest hour!
