The "Dead Internet" is no longer a theory.

For the first time, automated bot traffic (51%) has officially surpassed human activity (49%) online.

Malicious bots alone account for 37% of all web traffic.

OPINION = The gig economy in 2030 will be at least 2x - 3x larger than anyone predicts today. Couple that with micro transactions from crypto, and we can have direct compensation for any action/achievement/movement.

Perplexity's Getty deal spotlights AI's creator attribution challenge. A 2023 WIPO study found 66% of creators are worried about AI misusing their work. Licensing is a start, but we need intrinsic value.

Perplexity licensing Getty images is a step toward creator recognition, a positive sign that IP is not free.

But true partnership means more than just licensing. It's about building systems where creators are empowered, discovered, and fairly compensated by design.

🤯 Mind-blowing stat from @Shopify: Traffic from AI tools to their online stores is up 7X since January, with purchases up 11X

They call AI the "biggest shift in technology since the internet". But for creators, the question is: who truly benefits?

@Google's AI Mode can now book tickets & appointments. This is powerful, but it highlights a key question: Is AI doing the work for us, or replacing the need for human curation and discovery?

We need AI that augments human creativity, not automates it away.

Meta's earnings call revealed its AI priority: improving ad recommendations. The incentives are clear.

When your model is ads, AI just gets better at selling your attention.

Our model? No ads. Just a 10% creator-first platform fee. Incentives matter. #TimeWellSpent

Bluesky is now testing... "dislikes".

We're still trying to fix today's broken discovery with the same low-signal tools. A "dislike" is just as shallow as a "like." It doesn't tell you why something matters.

We need a new model. #SocialMedia #Discovery #Bluesky #Matter_Platform

From one of our founders:

The Dead Internet Theory:

Once relegated to the paranoid corners of online forums, this theory has moved from fringe conspiracy to a chillingly plausible diagnosis.

🧵 TikTok's new awards show is the "algorithmic rat race" getting its own red carpet.

1/ These awards reinforce the broken system. They force creators to chase trends and perform for the algorithm, hoping to become one of the 5 nominees, while millions of valuable creators remain undiscovered.

Shocking stat: @meta's stock lost $200B in value after revealing massive AI spending without a clear user product.

They're spending billions on infrastructure, but analysts are asking: "Where's the user value?"

This is a systems problem. #AI #CreatorEconomy #BigTech

Nothing matters other than achieving Product Market Fit. Most startups fail because they scale before they've achieved PMF.

That @URLgenius report isn't just celebrating a new "OmniFluencer" class; it's documenting the survivors. We've forced creators to become AI-powered, multi-platform data analysts just to scrape by. Seems like a symptom of a deeply broken system.

The creator economy is no longer a hobby. New @URLgenius data shows a 223% YoY surge in Prime Day traffic, powered by automated linking. 44% of creators now use AI weekly, up from 19% just 6 months ago. This is an AI-driven arms race.

Stop focusing on the bots. Focus on the platform. The Cracker Barrel crisis proves ad-driven systems need outrage to function. They are architected to launder fake sentiment into real-world financial consequences because an angry bot and an angry human spend time all the same.

Imagine losing millions because of an "angry mob" that was 44.5% fake. That's what @PeakMetrics found in the Cracker Barrel logo crisis. Bots manufactured the consensus, and platforms like rewarded them for it by making it trend. Data is the weapon, engagement is the target.

This article on AI browsers highlights a huge problem: the "ideal" browser with full user control (like disabling AI or confirming purchases) "doesn't currently exist." This is why we build from day one with privacy and user control at the core. You should own your experience. #AI @ProtonPrivacy

Attention #creators !

Great article by @ProtonPrivacy around the AI Browser. Even if you go through their privacy/data collections T&Cs, the vagueness alone should make your ears perk up. Copyright law would need to evolve to handle the AI Browser wars.
