As Kevin points out, this now routine reframing or sidelining of the impacts of climate change (or “shift”🤣🙄) as kinda positive - or that affected species are somehow “pioneers” - is far from enough to hide the reality we all know.

Hottest summer ever. So far…
Commercial rare bird news co:
"For British birders, the discovery provides both a thrilling rarity and a glimpse of the avian future. As climate and habitats shift, new species are arriving, some to stay. The Walberswick cisticolas are the latest, and perhaps not the last, of these pioneers."

More insipid climate reporting from the BBC (hottest summer on record). Mostly pictures of people splashing around having fun.

Probably time to stop tinkering around the edges and take this very, very seriously?

With immediate, rapid and huge change on a whole societal level, we might just scrape through. But we need to stop kidding ourselves and start acting in response to the reality we face.

@greenparty.org.uk “10,000 plants, animals and birds threatened with extinction” needs fact-checking. That is the total number of species studied from the last State of Nature report.

Oh, yes, at this time of the year we're all waiting for Wisdom to return to her breeding grounds, the Midway atoll. Fingers crossed.

Two things. Last year, she returned early December. And, apparently, 73 year old Wisdom got a new boyfriend in 2023.
