Each and every day it becomes more clear that our 20+ year focus on stem at the expense of humanities, history, social science, and social studies has been a colossal mistake. We should reverse course immediately and should be pushing for this on a regular basis. #sschat

Think it’s important for public high school teachers to grasp that our classes are, for many of our students, one of the very few humanities courses they’ll take in a formal educational setting—and, in many cases, the only ones

The story of my week is that my district, one of the ten largest in the country, is down in enrollment by 6,600 students. More than a third of these kids are likely immigrant children. The rest are due to rent cost, charters, and universal vouchers.

My most antiquated and weird RETVRN opinion is that a version of oral exams - discussion and discourse based evaluation in some way - are a way better mechanism for evaluating a student's grasp of material+ideas, especially in the humanities and some social sciences, than we give them credit for.

Such a reflective moment in my teaching career, and tomorrow, I will be acknowledged at the RCS School Board Meeting. As Bluesky has become my educational platform, I want to thank every educator who crossed my path. We know great teachers build upon great teachers. I could not be me without you!
