I want to apologize for being inactive this summer. After getting rejected from my phd program I was so heartbroken I needed some space to be present with myself, family and friends. I'm doing much better and im feeling inspired to start using my knowledge and platform to help my island and people!

🧵1/ He estado buscando trabajo en el campo de la educación en Puerto Rico con la esperanza de mudarme para estar más cerca de mi familia y amistades en la isla.

Pero seré honesta... el proceso me ha roto un poco el corazón.

1.
We need to have an honest conversation about how public education in America has become a glorified day care system—not by design, but by necessity.
Because when families are forced to work endlessly just to survive, schools become the only consistent structure kids have.

Recently, I experienced something I never thought I’d have to face so early in my career—a student death by suicide.

Nothing prepares you for this kind of loss. Not the degrees. Not the training. Not even your own strength.

Sometimes I sit at my job and feel something I can’t shake off — like I work in a prison for teens.
Not literally, but structurally.
I feel like a warden keeping children confined during the day.
And it haunts me.

Repeating something many Black journos have said already, but never underestimate how much white journos+editors willingness to play nice w/ varied iterations of “anti-wokeism” was b/c they got really uncomfortable from 2012 to 2020 when called to account for racism w/in their outlets/profession.

🧵1/ In Puerto Rico, the evangelical/Pentecostal movement has shaped a conservative political landscape—emphasizing traditional gender roles and hierarchical structures.

1/ Over the past decade, Puerto Rico has been systematically defunding public education while propping up private (often Christian) schools. This has disproportionately hurt low-income families. Here’s how it happened: 🧵

I miss the imaginary optimism of the 2010s buzzfeed millennials. Why did we ever call them cringe?

You have to admit it's really obvious the reason we keep seeing universities defending humanities and non-stem programs is because techoligarcs want an endless supply of workers who don't know how to think critically and question why we run things the way we do. Things don't have to be this way...

The way I judge people is by their ethics & morals. If you're okay bullying or being mean to someone just for how they look or for not fitting into your idea of ‘normal,’ then I know you're okay harming marginalized people & the people I love. That tells me everything I need to know.

Do you know what I find the most bizarre? These billionaires are just using Christofacism to get what they want. They're not Christians, yet they have fooled so many into believing they are representatives of the same religion so many other groups of people have used for their liberation and freedom

1/ 🧵 Puerto Rico’s political leadership has long been dominated by wealthy, well-connected families. But what does that mean for the island’s working-class & marginalized communities?⬇️
