I am begging my fellow U.S. leftists to apply the "if he wanted to, he would" principle of contemporary dating to domestic politics. Democrats need to be made to understand that they stand to lose more than they stand to gain by supporting ICE.

Those of us who are researchers, writers, journalists, etc. are often motivated by the truth (as subjective as our interpretations of it may be!). Yet not everyone is motivated by truth. Politicians, for instance, are often motivated by narrative control: control over what story gets told. (1/2)

It's also about convincing you that they impose reality and that they are the final arbiters of truth. Hence the importance of continuing to name reality and truth ourselves, at every single turn, with all that is available to us.
Every lie told by this regime, no matter how brazen, shocking, or dehumanizing, makes perfect sense when I think about their claim that immigrants were eating pets in Ohio. It's not about evidence or credibility, it's about pushing narratives to facilitate ethnic cleansing.

I've spent some time this weekend planning what I will do if I spot ICE in my neighborhood. I know what organization and friends and family I will contact and via which channels. I encourage anyone who cares about human rights and has not already done so to think about the same.

I'm sorry for the person who was beat to death and killed. My sincere condolences to their loved ones. ICE is going to continue to kill people because the purpose of a system is what it does. It is not what it says it does or what you hope it does. Maybe USians will finally confront this truth.

Some broad thoughts on the winter storm.

From a hazards perspective, we are dealing with a tough situation. We have a multi-hazard event (ice, snow, sleet, rain, freezing temperatures, and wind) with extremes in terms of geographic scope (Texas to Maine) & intensity.

It is such a privilege to collaborate with Dr. Smiles. As I wrote in my testimonial, "his leadership in research and education ripples outward well beyond the academic, geographic, and social parameters of the laboratory itself."
Culturally, as an Ojibwe person, it feels very weird to brag about myself and my accomplishments.

However, a trusted mentor recommended that I create a page highlighting words of support and endorsement from colleagues, lab members, and students.

Here it is!

It was a pleasure to speak with @lonningspils.bsky.social about mixed-methods feminist environmental research, marine plastic pollution on the west coast of Sweden, bringing poetry off the page, and more ⛵ Thank you, Gregory!
New on Lønningspils today.

I interviewed @mayaweeks.bsky.social about translating the author's note for Tove Jansson's "Sun City", studying plastic pollution in Sweden from a feminist environmental justice perspective, making ambient records & so much more.

I am writing an essay for the first time in a few years (!) and, well, we'll see what my editor has to say (hahaha hi Aaron!), but I think doing my Ph.D. in geography seriously improved my nonfiction writing skills. I have so! Many! Facts! To share!

Please do use this worksheet that we labored over for quite some time, and even tested with users! It’s a good starting point for thinking about specific wildfire-related interventions that water systems can undertake (figure alt text in responses)
@edithdeguzman.bsky.social, @fkearns.bsky.social and I came up with a "menu" that is included as a worksheet in the appendix to our "Water Systems’ Wildfire Fighting Capacities and Expectations" report released last week.

We had to Google what & where Sark is—a tiny Channel Island off Normandy that’s car-free and beautiful. Residents want to safeguard its rich seas, limiting harmful trawling and boosting sustainable fishing & blue tourism by formally declaring their waters as a "Highly Protected" MPA.
