An ideal scenario would be the resumption of fair elections and then having elections where it’s decided “do we keep industries on state hands, how do we regulate the economy. How do we balance these issues”

But right now it’s just about ousting maduro and his cronies. Broader issues come later

It’s kind of like the USSR. You wouldn’t really say the state owning industries was “left wing” - because it was just a corrupt state. So a push against that wasn’t really “right wing” - it was just anti-corruption

The coalition she is leading is fairly mixed in political persuasion. It’s also fairly a political.

The issue of state ownership and such is debate point but it’s all so muddled by the fact the modern regime isn’t really left wing. It’s just corrupt

So she def is more of the conservative variety. But I def don’t find anything that says she would be some right wing tyrant. She might not be my choice in a fair vote. But right now she is just fighting for elections

Justice Anthony Kennedy tells @npr.org's @ninatotenberg.bsky.social "very worried" about our country, and that "Democracy is not guaranteed to survive."

Kennedy wrote Citizens United and was the fifth vote in the rest of the Roberts Court's anti-democratic decisions.

Amazingly, McKenna has faced no challengers in 2021 or 2025. Today Orleans is voting for local parish offices. McKenna, however, has already been re-elected unopposed.

McKenna won his 2017 bid, after serving several months in prison for felony tax invasion, when the incumbent coroner opted to retire after filing for re-election.

Despite being technically unopposed, 40% of voters still backed Incumbent Jeff Rouse to try and stop McKenna

Dwight McKenna is a colorful and controversial figure in Orleans. He'd run for coroner twice before, in 2011 and 2014.

In his 2011 run against then-incumbent Frank Minyard, he claimed that organ harvesting had gone on and ran this crazy-ass ad

Day 11 of #MappingCoroner elections for Halloween 🎃

The 2017 Primary for Orleans Coroner sparked my fascination with this office.

That year, Dwight McKenna, previously in jail for tax evasion, won the office of coroner when the incumbent opted to abandon his own re-election

The Maduro folks, of course, published false results and claimed victory. Their totals are below. What is especially notable is that their totals were virtually impossible, with each candidate getting a perfect 10th of a percent of the vote, a statistical impossibility

The opposition knew the Maduro regime would report false results, so democracy activists coordinated efforts to copy the ballot tally sheets from polling stations and post them to a central hub

In 2023, Lousiana held its state and county elections. The state is home to a very large number of people who run and get elected coroner as NPA candidates, holding 18 posts

Most of the party flips were either party switches or incumbents retiring. This brought the office more into the partisan leaning of the top of the ticket

Heading into the 2022 midterms, Kentucky had more Democratic coroners than Republicans. However, in that year's races, Republicans flipped 26 offices!

However, only FOUR of these were incumbents being defeated. Details below
