Hey Bluesky folks! I'm one of the weirdos that imported like, 11 years worth of tweet into this account, so if you're scrolling back and see something that makes you go, "OMG, read the room, lady" it's my sincere hope that it's ancient history in spite of the date.
At this moment in time, this book is so tone deaf it beggars belief.

George Jackson, writing this sometime around 1970 before he was murdered by the police, gave us the advice we need now:

It has been made ABUNDANTLY clear that these people don't fear identification as they're protected from the top down. Abolish ICE and primary every Democrat who says otherwise.
I am introducing the Quick Recognition (QR) Act, which requires ICE and CBP officers to wear uniforms featuring QR codes. When scanned, the code would generate a digital ID displaying the officer’s name, badge number, and law enforcement agency.

ICE should be unmasked both physically and digitally.

Knew this was coming. Something I've been noticing happening slowly for a while now. It's also happening in conjunction with the aging up of YA and the influx of romantasies that tend to feature cisallohet relationships and dabble in fascism-adjacent storytelling themes.

I give things the equivalent of 50 pages (if in audio format) since I have to do so much reading for my job. Sometimes, there's nothing WRONG with the book, it's just that it's not for me.

Remember, Scott Adams won't see your posts focusing on his late-career bigotry, but J.K. Rowling might.

I'm incredibly thankful for her help, encouragement and work on my behalf. Of course, I'm now completely full of nerves even thought I know this was 100% the right decision.

Steeling myself for the journey ahead!

So, I'm starting out 2026 querying after a super amicable split with my agent. After a few years of realizing that she was heading in a different direction genre-wise, I felt like I needed to find someone who was better suited to the kind of work /I/ want to do now and in the future.

Very creative story. So much fun to think of these witchy items as having their own stories and characterization.

Had such a lovely author moment today at work when a woman came in with her late elementary age daughter so that the kiddo could tell me how much she loved my debut middle-grade novel and she was in the middle of the sequel. I had such a tough experience with those two books--it was SO nice to hear!

Thinking tonight about the moment years ago in a local mall when my youngest, upon passing Santa’s grotto with a line of kids waiting to take pictures, said loudly, “HEY MOM DID YOU KNOW IN THE OLDEN DAYS ST. NICHOLAS WOULD GIVE COINS TO WOMEN AT CHRISTMASTIME SO THEY WOULDN’T BE PROSTITUTES?”

Everyone involved in the publication and promotion of this book should be embarrassed. It's not a "harsh truth" that COVID mitigation was a mistake, it's ghoulish and false.

Just thinking about her this morning, and librarians all over the county, fighting the good fight. It is not hyperbole to say that putting the right books in the hands of the right kids at the right time is life changing. Keep fighting the good fight, y'all. 3/3

I was happy to tell her that the practice had gotten more difficult due to laws in individual counties and the formation of committees within local school systems to review all challenges. "We're ready to leave and come North, I think," she told me. "I just can't take it anymore down there." 2/3

Shoutout to school librarians who are doing a hard job right now--this time of year, we have a lot of folks from out of town coming through the store and last weekend, a school librarian from Florida asked me about the state of book banning in MD. 1/3
