“Apps genius” - Colleen. I used to work on making Twitter a bit healthier, then that all went to hell. Now I make puns and indie apps @plinky.app.

Born and raised New Yorker, trying to do a little good and be the friend you made along the way. 🍕🐱⚾️

Hi, I’m Joe! I used to work @ Twitter on all the hard things like misinformation, disinformation, harassment, and civic integrity. I also spent a ton of effort on little improvements to make people’s lives better. These days I’m an indie developer making it easy to save links for later, with Plinky.

Plinky helps you easily save links from any device, so you can enjoy them later. Save on your iPhone, iPad, Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Zapier, and so much more.

Before Rust, we were all living on borrowed time and hoping the compilers wouldn't notice.
Until JavaScript all Java was passed down via oral tradition
Until Objective C, all code was pointless, random. The big innovation was having a goal with it

Still a long way to go match the state of the art, but local models small enough to fit on your phone are getting powerful enough to do real things.

Sure why not, let’s just integrate M̵e̵c̵h̵a̵h̵i̵t̵l̵e̵r̵ Grok into military networks.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced the integration of Elon Musk's xAI platform, Grok, into military networks as part of a new "AI acceleration strategy" during a visit to SpaceX.

Do you ever come across an interesting article but halfway through you hit the paywall? Sometimes you’re lucky enough that someone posts a gift link and boom — you’re reading.

Well, I built Skylink to easily find gift links — and then transformed it into a general search tool for any Bluesky feed!
I was working on a little tool for @plinky.app, and realized I could turn it into something useful for other people.

Introducing Skylink. 🎁

Search any Bluesky feed to find links matching any term, domain, or URL. The default feed is the Gift Links feed — so maybe find yourself a good read? 😇
Skylink - Search Bluesky feeds for links
Paste a Bluesky feed link and find posts that mention your domains, URLs, or keywords.

I agree! I often explain in my workshops that the key to succeeding with AI isn’t a knack for programming, it’s having autonomy, creativity, drive, and critical thinking skills. I think we’ll look back and see that it’s merely a coincidence that those qualities were predominantly focused on code.

This is going to sound hyperbolic but I don't even need to try Claude Cowork to know that it's going to be a hit with knowledge workers. This is the power developers have had with Claude Code, packaged up nicely for everyone else — and they're going to love it.

I love the idea of Gemini models running locally on Apple's hardware, but it raises some important questions about privacy. I wrote a few quick thoughts about how this deal between Apple and Google could be good for Siri, and where I'm a little bit hesitant until we have more details.

This article from @mergesort.me has been super helpful in looking at codex differently and I am excited to give it another go since my last honest shot a couple months back. build.ms/2025/12/22/codex-vs-...
Codex vs. Claude Code (Today)

As a software developer who spends his days building a link-saving app and his nights telling everyone that in the very near future people will be able to easily build their own software to solve their personal problems — this is my existential crisis coming to life.

The last couple of weeks whenever I have a thought I want to share I've been opening Craft and writing a blog post instead. Not only has it made my thoughts more evergreen (and not locked to a platform), but it's also meant less time reading social media, and more time being creative. I love it.

You Probably Need More Vitamin D
Consider this a PSA. I went to the doctor in September to get some blood tests done for my never-ending health crusade and was shocked to find out that I have shockingly low vitamin D levels. I was su...

Glad that @joshdholtz.com is no longer making me keep this secret!

I’ll be giving an updated rendition of AI (Without the Hype), to account for how much has changed in AI since I gave the talk in…

*checks notes*

September 2025.

And of course I’ll be teaching many evergreen AI lessons as well.
📣 Speaker Announcement

The title might say "Without the Hype" but there is big hype for this speaker as he's been a huge part of this community 🎉

We're so excited that @mergesort.me will be on the Deep Dish stage this year giving us a much needed talk on AI 🙌

I was eating pizza a few days ago and I felt compelled to write. The essay has nothing to do with pizza, but I wrote the whole thing while I was still at the pizza place.

Anyhow, here is a short story about Judaism, organ donation, and something I learned that will change my life (and death).
Organ Donation & Pascal's Wager
I've always felt very conflicted about the idea of donating my organs when I die. On the one hand, it's entirely in accordance with my values. I strive to help anyone I can in any way I can, whenever ...

“This thing is taking my job, but also I was able to make something I couldn’t before.” Glad that soon everyone will get to have the same existential crisis I’ve had for the last 2-3 years as a software developer using AI every day.
That said it really is amazing to me that I was able to build this without writing a single line of HTML or using any templates or design tools cnewton.org/blog

My big bet for WWDC 2026 is waiting on Apple to release a much better voice model that runs locally. I've wanted to build a Plinky feature that lets you have articles read aloud to you, but it would require internet, storage, and cost a lot (aka charging users more). Waiting though might pay off.

There are a lot of people building AI who are trying not to replicate the mistakes of Tay. And then there’s the richest man in the world trying to build Tay 2.0 to prove some sort of twisted point about personal freedoms.

Every Twizzlers flavor ranked (accurately)

1. Cherry pull 'n' peel

…A distant second…

2. Cherry nibs

3. Literally any fucking food and some inedible objects

4. Seriously do not eat any of the other Twizzlers flavors what are you doing with your life?
