“Apps genius” - Colleen. I used to work on making Twitter a bit healthier, then that all went to hell. Now I make puns and indie apps @plinky.app.

Hi, I’m Joe! I used to work @ Twitter on all the hard things like misinformation, disinformation, harassment, and civic integrity. I also spent a ton of effort on little improvements to make people’s lives better. These days I’m an indie developer making it easy to save links for later, with Plinky.
Plinky
Plinky helps you easily save links from any device, so you can enjoy them later. Save on your iPhone, iPad, Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Zapier, and so much more.

1/5 Plinky 5.1 is out today, with a lot of updates. But I want to start off by saying — hi — Plinky is on sale big time right now! You can get 50% off of 1 year of Plinky Pro, on top of already big price drops in 100+ countries. Definitely take advantage of this for a limited time!

I've been working super hard on Plinky 5.1, pretty much since the big iOS 26 release in September. I've also dramatically dropped prices for Plinky almost everywhere around the world. Combine that with Black Friday and this is Plinky's best deal ever, with more functionality than ever too.

Did you know the term doctor wasn't originally applied to people in medicine?

This was an interesting reply because it made me realize that not everyone does this. I know people vibecoding aren't reading the code, but the way I work is that every time the LLM writes code, I read the output and internalize it a little bit. (Which is how I guide the LLM to write better code.)
I found that manually refactoring the LLM output after each feature/bug fix/LLM-refactor helps with that. Somewhat.

Programming is like writing, it's a tool for my brain to model the problem and solution space. Without that, I'm kinda lost.

You’re all so cynical. A more generous way of looking at this is that X is now a wealth transfer program, directly from the richest man in the world to some of the poorest people in developing nations. ❤️💜💙💚💛
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

Guess they went through the same cycle we did, just in public. 🙃
Something the new X product dude is doing that I think is good is going through everything the previous Twitter teams had considered and documented, and actually shipping those features. My team worked on this and ultimately didn't ship it because of VPNs and such, but it's worth trying things out!

Truly happy that AT-native alternatives like @leaflet.pub and @pckt.blog have sprung up since then, sparing me from this hell.
One massively underrated feature of Bluesky is that you can’t write full length blog posts here, like the worst people on X do for some ungodly reason.

This is borderline insulting. Legitimately one of the worst movies I've seen in years, and it's Recommended For Me?? Rude.

> In a world where anyone can build software, taste is the real differentiator.

The problem with people using this argument to defend their job security is that more have good taste than know how to build software. Ironically I see this argument a lot from people on LinkedIn who have little taste.

Love this analogy, @geoffreylitt.com nails it. There are so many things I have to do as a software developer that are not my primary goal or objective, and the power of AI is that it lets me do those things far more effectively so I can do the whole of my job better.
