Hey guys, gals and non-binary pals.

I think it's about time that I reveal myself as properly identifying as Mermaidkin. This is something that was probably pretty obvious to most of you but I'm putting it out there anyway lol.

Mermaids back when I was a young child were something that mystified me, but also made me afraid, in a way that isn't very well explained. Perhaps really I was just afraid of liking something that's considered stereotypically "girlish". From encounters I had with a quirky girl in second grade to when I was given conflicting emotions watching an episode of Tom & Jerry, I could never quite sort out my feelings with them.

Something changed later down the road, when I got a cell phone from the first time. I browsed images of mermaids, scrolled for hours just admiring art on many different platforms. I was slowly being introduced to online circles for various fandoms, but due to me being highly socially awkward and afraid of the greater internet as a whole, I never branched out and befriended people online, unless you count Miiverse but none of those Wii U friends are in contact anymore lol.

Later down the line, and when I realized I was transgender and I could comfortably partake in girly things, mermaids were the first thing I properly embraced. I felt at peace imaging myself drifting along the waves with a tail instead of legs. This was around the time when I first got a job as well, and I realized that with the money I earned, I could get art commissioned and fulfil the ideas that have been swimming in my brain for years. If I could enjoy all these mermaid drawings before, imagine how much I could enjoy them if they depicted... me.

Maya the name was chosen long before Maya the character. If you've played Ace Attorney, you know the girl and how much I relate to her. Honestly the clownfish wasn't even my own idea, it was pitched to me by another friend, who created Maya's first ever piece. Over time, she's had a few small updates but is mostly the same as she was back in 2022. This means to be that she's truly just... perfect. She's me, I'm her. There's no one I'd rather be.

Been listening to Tidal Tempest on loop, it's very fitting I think.

Todays a double feature, I felt like drawing the pink mermaid from a few days ago and so I decided to give her a bio to go with it. She's the local town's guard captain and is usually the one to have to clean up Morag's various messes.
