‪Super interesting relationship - I wonder what’s the mechanism and what would continuous objective cough monitoring data show ‬

So many posts on Reddit where patients complain about their cough while being on GLPs, and many comments replying this is ‘silent reflux’… today’s JAMA publication is shedding more light on cough and its relationship to GLPs

Cough monitoring is the way to study this objectively

I will keep wondering what’s the mechanism here…

This is unexpected! Continuous cough monitoring can now provide objective insights on:

- cough baseline vs developing sustained/worsened cough
- cough patterns & severity (bouts, cough-free time)

Super curious what the objective results would show!

This model for COPD exacerbations could allow for more individualised prognostic and therapeutic implications.

Digital longitudinal data is probably the most realistic way to operationalise B+A dimensions at scale by anchoring acuity in personalised baselines.

Study links long-term black carbon exposure to increased asthma, COPD risk

Findings highlight the need for targeted air quality regulations to reduce BC emissions. There's potential for longitudinal objective respiratory (eg cough) symptom monitoring.

AI-generated "letters to the editor"

Dr. Carlos Chaccour, University of Navarra, noticed something fishy about a letter to the editor the New England Journal of Medicine received shortly after it published a paper of his on malaria treatment in July.

The correlation between cough severity and asthma control is stronger in patients whose cough occurred with shortness of breath compared to isolated cough.

This suggests different cough phenotypes within asthma with varying clinical implications.

Wearable cough monitors (eg smartwatch) enable ambulatory assessment that captures real-world disease burden. This contrasts with clinic-based evaluations that may not reflect typical patient experiences.
