Quick read is that the deal is more about optics at the moment – certainly in helping OpenAI against Google, but also Disney signaling a continued push to be forward-thinking with tech. At a time when Hollywood is freaking out about the future, no less!

Clearly, there's something to be done here with movie theaters. The opportunities (and costs) have kept falling on Netflix's head like one of those Looney Tunes anvils.
