Michael Patrick Lynch is an American philosopher who is Provost Professor of the Humanities and Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at the University of Connecticut. From 2014-2023 he was also the director of the University of Connecticut Humanities Institute. When they talk about "land swaps" to end the Ukraine war, what is being swapped? Is Putin actually giving any Russian territory in exchange for the Ukrainian territory he has seized by force? Wouldn't a more accurate phrase be territorial concessions?

Philosopher John Dewey warned about the dangers of authoritarian falsehoods, which create a "state of daze" that allows leaders to manipulate the public. Dewey's concerns are echoed today, as blatant lies from political leaders undermine truth and evidence-based institutions. This contempt for truth erodes democratic principles, replacing them with conformity to power, and threatens the integrity of scientific, legal, and academic institutions essential for critical thinking and informed decision-making.
