People are spontaneously posting up near any laborers or street vendors they spot. Just saw a rapid responder guarding a man working on a building exterior. Many things are terrible today but lord, this stuff matters.

There are a tremendous number of ICE watchers out in Rogers Park this afternoon after some early morning abductions.

People are guarding churches and patrolling alleyways. Ran into Alderperson Hadden. First timers tell us they're primed and ready to use their whistles.

More judges speak to the press (the NYT) about what a disaster the Supreme Court (specifically the shadow docket) has been - “incredibly demoralizing & troubling”; a “judicial crisis”; a “slap in the face to district courts.” www.nytimes.com/2025/10/11/u...

Whew yes the Pope! It still pleasantly surprises me whenever a church leader says something that actually sounds like Christian values

Wisdom, moral imagination, an enlarged sympathy for those who live or have lived differently from yourself. This is what you get from studying the Humanities. So quite important, actually.

Labour needed Liverpool to go well. Labour also needs Manchester to go well for Kemi Badenoch! Indeed, this is more critical to Reform in many, many ways…

While some may not be as interested in CPC, understanding why the Tories continue to lose support is a HUGE issue.

In her Labour conference speech, Chancellor Reeves announced that the Government has so far recovered nearly £400m of funds from Covid fraud, and launched a new "hit squad" to investigate and recover money from fraudsters who exploited government contracts

Burnham's speech shifts beyond confines of PR to mass social housing, technical education, transport. "These are the ideas I'm putting forward. I think we need to debate them as a party. I've launched a debate on our direction." Adds: "I am here to support the government."

Burnham says Starmer's Labour Party has "a climate of fear". People are suspended for liking tweets and losing whip. "You can't be narrow and shallow, you need to have everyone in play." It is less tolerant of debate than Blair.

Burnham speech

- linked need for new political pluralism nationally (thru fringe’s ostensible subject of PR) with a newly tolerant big tent approach to party management (got biggest cheer on that)

- Ambition palpable despite protestations this is just a “debate”

- Bond market line finessed a bit

Sadly, not all the team that created the festivals are still with us. Ken Hulme died in 2010. Dick Muskett died at the end of last year. Remembered with great warmth. #GLCworkingforLondon

Angry at insinuations that judges who granted or overturned Epping injunction were politically biased. I've known both Cons & Lab lawyers who've become judges. Whatever their previous politics they take seriously their judicial oath to do justice without fear or favour

A courteous but very impressive rebuke to Nigel Farage from the Bishop of Oxford.

"I heard no compassion in what you said...".

"I disagree profoundly with your attempts to ... increase fear of the stranger in our communities".
