One of my favorite events of the year is back again! Now in its 4th year, the Los Angeles Immersive Invitational is an incubator for immersive art, pushing artists to innovate with less than 48 hours to build, rehearse, and present new immersive performances.

My second year at the LA city council budget meeting and this year was INSANE. I’ve been here 4 hours and haven’t spoken yet. Only 2 disruptions (that I’ve seen) and a ton of calls to defund the police instead of defunding public services or major layoffs.

If you think this can’t happen, remember that of the 125,000 Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII for years without charge or trial, two-thirds were U.S. citizens. Including me.

I bought a ticket to see a show, accidentally bought it for yesterday instead of today, I email the box office profusely apologizing and they change it no problem. The show on Wednesday started at 8, apparently the Thursday show starts at 7 so I just missed that show too….

Everyone is freaking out that Nick Jonas is going to embarrass himself in the Last Five Years but I need everyone to remember he postponed the entire Jonas Brothers European Tour for this, which makes it more embarrassing

I'm just as disgusted by the people who do sieg heil salutes as I am by the people standing nearby who don't immediately punch them in the face. Stand the hell up.

Kendrick Lamar will not rest until he performs “Not Like Us” at the LA 28 Olympics Opening. The whole world must know how much he hates Drake.

📣 MAJOR MAJOR PSA 📣

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SIGN UP FOR A PROTEST. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO "REGISTER" TO SHOW SOLIDARITY. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GIVE YOUR NAME, ADDRESS, AND PHONE NUMBER TO HAND OUT AND DISTRIBUTE MATERIALS.

YOU JUST SHOW UP.
also if you see a website about a “strike” or other large-scale protest, and they ask you to “sign up” by giving your personal information, DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR INFORMATION! they are almost certainly honeypots! and any that might not be can easily be compromised!

What I truly don’t understand about the folks that claim the confederate flag is “heritage” and that is was just a “Roman salute” is like… you know the confederates and n*zis lost those wars right? Like the people you’re defending are actual losers on an international scale.

I used to work for an elected official as the person who answered their emails. I can tell you from personal experience, if even twenty or thirty people all call an official in a day, they start panicking. This stuff does help.
I know you hate this advice. I know you hear it all the time, but for gods sake you need to be calling your congressperson. Now. Today.

If you have a GOP representative, you need to call and ask if they approve of stripping congress of its constitutional authority. If they like being powerless.

This workout set is going viral on TikTok and all I can see is Hunger Games uniforms. I know I’m hitting that dystopia core so hard but like damn can we really pick some different leggings right now?

TLDR: There is nothing enforceable for the immediate future. It will take months or years to implement this via rulemaking or bureaucratic changes which are then subject to legal challenge. While it's worrying, there's no immediate change yet for most trans people. Do not comply in advance.

Haven’t cried all week but just went to drop off donations and saw everyone working so hard and the line around the block of people dropping stuff off and just burst into tears.

If you want to understand a tiny bit of what it feels like in LA right now, read the exhausted relief with which people are posting about the Sunset Fire water drop. No jokes, no snark. Just pure, tear-streaked gratitude for a smidge of good news in a nightmare.

It’s hellish here. Please be kind.

The last month of the year, filled with holiday shopping, existential dread, and about half a dozen versions of a Christmas Carol. There are still plenty of shows to see to help you escape, and only one version of A Christmas Carol on this newsletter
