The Portal to the Pavement I shoveled outside our house on Monday. Come to the corner of N. Jefferson and Fairfax and enjoy it!
Limited time offer!
Soon to be inevitably closed by a passing Arlington County snowplow.

In October, I posted on FB that redistricting in Virginia this year was not possible b/c the proposed amendment was passed several weeks after voting had already started.
Almost no one read that post.
I didn't have a peek at Judge Hurley's ruling. But I had read that part of the VA Constitution.

I had fully cleared this sidewalk. A snowplow came through to widen the car lane and it pushed big blocks on the sidewalk.

This aggression will not stand, man.

I know. I need to be in my doorway, wearing a bathrobe, and drinking a White Russian to properly deliver that line. But I’m out of vodka.

I guess we all know now what the word "brandishing" means, as in "Alex Pretti did not brandish his weapon."
But it is sad that after 250 years, America as a country does not act like it knows what the word "justice" means.

Tom Homan’s the guy on videotape accepting bribes but because Trump controls the DOJ, no prosecution of Homan.
How does putting a certified corrupt guy in charge of Minneapolis help deescalate? Are protesters supposed to offer Tom Homan bribes?

PRO TIP from your favorite Boomer with a Snow Shovel:
I shoveled in 3 stretches yesterday, each time just slipping on the boots, untied. During the third stretch, I kept thinking- why are my feet so cold? Got inside to then discover there was snow filling my untied boots!
The lesson- tie your boots.

PRO TIP from your favorite Boomer with a Snow Shovel.
Every time I clear this sidewalk outside our house, I swear it gets wider. Pro tip: Get out there before the snow and measure it-you can then be reassured, no, they didn't widen the walks over the summer.
Half with snow residue was cleared today.
January 27, 2026 at 10:23 PM
PRO TIP from your favorite Boomer with a Snow Shovel: Get edgy.
Shovel your walk and add a couple of inches or so of grass. Give the snowmelt somewhere to drain rather than back over the concrete.

PRO TIP from your favorite Boomer with a Snow Shovel. The snow/sleet we got in Arlington calls for the utility player of your tools. Ice scraper/garden root chopper/roofing shingle remover tool has a moment to shine.
Quickly crack the three inches of crusty ice. Then it's a quick clearing by shovel.

So Senator Susan Collins is going to vote for more ICE funding even after the murders openly committed by ICE?
I find that very concerning.
But not surprising.

I am a lot less interested in demotions and resignations than I am in investigations and prosecutions.

Greg Bovino always looks like he just woke up. Which makes sense if he was a Nazi cryogenically frozen in 1945 and revived recently for this New Fascist Front.
Micro nazi from the land of formerly free speech, Bovino says if you call federal agents “kidnappers” or “Gestapo,” there will be “consequences.”

How is it that only NOW is the conservative media waking up to the reality that Puppy Killer Barbie is a political liability for MAGA? Good grief.

I had Pam Bondi all wrong.
I thought of Bondi as an order follower, a D-list consigliere. But Bondi has the full skill set of an extortionist and is clearly capo famiglia material.

‘All-out assault on our democracy:’ Bondi’s Minnesota blackmail letter draws righteous fury from state election leaders
“This isn't leadership. This is blackmail," Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes said. "This is the way organized crime works."

With the Melania premiere behind him, Brett Ratner can focus on his next project, the Stephen Miller biopic.

Snow (8 hrs) & sleet (11 hrs) left us with a crispy snow, heavy but not ice. But where anyone walked by during the storm, the footprints collected freezing rain and became ice.
PRO TIP- shovel the snow that no one walked on, even if that means shoveling over grass as in the stretch past the hydrant.

And EVERY group of Congressional Republicans BEFORE Gingrich took over would have stopped this already. Newt Gingrich and John Roberts have played key roles in the dismantling of America.
"Elected Republicans could stop this TONIGHT if they wanted to."

PRO TIP from your favorite Boomer with a Snow Shovel. I cut back the length of the snow shovel to put a limit on how heavy a lift I'll be doing. I call it "Stubby" and have been outside with it this morning, clearing the walk.
A hack for you if you are aging in a place that gets snow.

This agenda is good for many placs besides Texas.
James Talarico: I want to ban corporate PACs.

Ban Super PACs.

Ban members of Congress from trading stocks.

Ban gerrymandering.

Overhaul the Supreme Court.

Pass term limits.

And require members of Congress to hold at least one annual town hall so their constituents can hold them accountable.

Started shoveling the snow/sleet/ice we got for 21 hours in Arlington.
I don’t speak any languages spoken in Arctic regions. But I understand they have over a hundred different words for ”snow.”
Don’t speak the language, but I’m sure the word for this type of snow does double duty as a curse word

Is it too much to ask SCOTUS to have facts matter? The claim of mortgage fraud made against Lisa Cook was based on nonexistent evidence. Pulte claimed Cook’s signature was on a form and it was not.
When Trump lies, the courts should just toss the case and not waste our time.
ANALYSIS: Supreme Court justices signal they will protect Federal Reserve independence by rejecting the use of mortgage fraud as a pretext for removal. Court affirms that 14-year statutory terms act as a Section 10 firewall against executive overreach in government's case against governor Lisa Cook.
Cook off the hook: Why the Fed wall stood tall
Supreme Court signals mortgage fraud pretext cannot override the Federal Reserve Act, affirming that the 14-year statutory term is a hard check on executive power.

Calls for "deescalation" from big corporate CEOs in Minnesota miss the point.
We need investigation, prosecution, conviction, and the removal of all ICE and DHS agents from Minnesota.
Calls for deescalation sound like sending in arbitrators to hear from both sides.
The ICE agents would shoot them.
