Yet another reason to avoid my formerly favorite big box store. And it's not just Black folks who have ditched Target. It's everyone who cares about integrity and fair treatment (of employees, suppliers, customers).

Opinion | Forcing its employees to smile won't fix Target's problem
The Minneapolis-based retailer isn’t suffering lower sales because its employees are rude but because it disrespected a significant portion of its customer base.

Yes. More is needed. Much more. The article suggests boycotts and mass protests that don't just happen on sunny weekend afternoons.
Opinion | Why 'No Kings' protests didn't excite Black America
Within the Black community, one heard lots of comments suggesting that the “No Kings” protest was not something we should bother with.

Good reporting from @npr.org on AI-generated "workslop."

"People are using AI regardless of whether it's needed, which sometimes results in more work for their colleagues."

AI can, indeed, do some things well, but you also need to check absolutely everything it does, which adds time to projects.

Worth the subscription. @katmabu.bsky.social is bringing the fight that the incumbents don't have in them. We need more like her.

How to Start Your Own Rapid Response Group to Protect Immigrants In Your Neighborhood

The only proven defense against armed masked agents in your neighborhoods is an organized community. After all, no one knows your neighborhood more than you.

What to know what you can do? This. Peaceful observation and recording and reporting. Extra credit for protest that gums up the works, not just the permitted, unobtrusive kind. Also the backend, out of the spotlight, admin behind all that.
They just tear-gassed us. They tried to run us over in a van holding a peaceful protester. They shot us with pepper balls. They dragged another protester into the facility.
moments ago, ice agents again came out of the broadview detention/“professing” facility to escort a silver suv out of the lot.

one of the agents picked up and threw congressional candidate kat abughazaleh to the ground.

My article in @chronogram.bsky.social on America's first municipally owned and operated floating solar power array.

“It’s great for the environment and there’s a savings for the municipality,” the mayor says. “So what’s not to like about it?”

Now it's time for companies, journalists, and citizens alike to stand up and speak out, because unchecked and unquestioned power has no rightful place in America.
