Got a bit lost trying to to cycle down the Li River from Guilin to Yangshuo. Made the mistake of taking the back roads through (up!) the hills instead of the main highway. Had to turn back 😫
There’s a good cycle path down the eastern side of the Li River
Weather a bit grey as I start the Guilin - Yangshuo #bike ride along the Li River #cycling #China
Carlos & Jennifer from Valencia are riding a tandem from Sichuan to Singapore. I heard rumours about a couple of foreign cyclists when on the remote road from Guiyang to Guilin & we bumped in them on the street yesterday. So we took them out for dinner to show them a few local specialities.
It was better than the usual museums that have orthodox Party/nationalist narratives. Surprisingly positive and respectful pro-US displays. And interesting collection of artifacts and photos if you’re a WW2/CBI history buff

Ironic that the Flying Tigers memorial is dedicated to ‘when the US united with China to defeat fascism and militarism’. Now being anti fascist in the US is to be an enemy of the state
There can’t be many places in China where the #Taiwan flag is on proud display but it can be seen (in the form
If the old Republic of China emblem) here at the Flying Tigers Memorial Hall on the site of the former US Airforce Base in Guilin. The displays are also effusively pro US Air Force
Cycling round our old haunts in Guilin
Will be leaving the e-bike here in Guilin for a while. Storing in sister in laws garage until the next long distance trip. I now have a total of 4 bikes here.
Another clip from our recent drive up to revisit the mountain village of Mundon. Last time (2009) went by horse.
Just finished the amazing book by Debsey Wykes- Teenage Daydream: We are the Girls Who Play in a Band. The story of Dolly Mixture. Full of great details and she writes so well (funny and sympathetically) about the music scene of the early 80s.

The local Chinese shopping centre appeared to be a NYT style ghost mall until I popped in on Saturday evening at 8.30pm to buy some bits. Heaving

Given how much the China spy case has dominated headlines, it really does beg the question: why is our political-media class so uninterested in Nathan Gill, his Russian bribes, his once close associate Nigel Farage, and Reform UK?

Our new Byline Times edition investigates what the media won't 👇
Reunited with my better half at the family home in Guilin
Made it Guilin. Karst country. 1000km from Chengdu via Guizhou.

Not sure anything could be as embarrassing. Top work by US correspondent Cameron Stewart!
A reporter from the Australian is one of the group of signatories to the Pentagon's new press corps rules which prompted a universal walk-out from credible news outlets.

“Britain, (does) not know how to answer the China question. The idea that it will be solved by putting low-grade MPs’ staffers on trial and attacking the Prime Minister by smearing his highly qualified Chief of Staff will only make officials in Beijing smile” www.thearticle.com/chinese-spie...
