It's art and cats all the way down.
Day 6: Distance Directional and Drop Shadow. They seem to have similar functions, adding some separation from the background for the image. #SubstancePainter

Day 5: Mirror. It has a options for a bunch of uv directions, though only at most 4 quadrants.

Filters day 4, Glow. Here its coming out from the edges of the decal alpha. #SubstancePainter

Substance Painter Filters day 3: Pixelate. For that lo-fi look, but using a 4k texture here 😂.

Substance Painter filters Day 2, Blur Directional and Blur Slope. Directional smears at an angle, and Slope gives it some texture.

Substance Painter filters day 1: Blur

Pretty straight forward, a UV based blur. Wrap lets it go over shell borders.

New challenge for myself: a Substance Painter filter a day. SP has seemingly infinite filters for layers, and I have no idea what most of them are.

The generic baseline.

#Dimension20 #TitanTakeover is finally airing! I did a ton of minis for them, which I can share as they debut on the show. These are the main Heroes, which I'll post about individually soon!

I had forgotten just how good some quick zbrush sketching is for the soul.

Day 30, the end! I returned to a piece I had to give up on before because I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong: this halter top. It turned out I was approaching the elastic band all wrong. It was a measurable sign of progress learning the tools. #MarvelousDesigner

Day 29. Trying out posing. The MD avatars come with poses, so I tried that out. Toss a little wind in for a photoshoot.

Day 28. I saw a vendor at a faire saying this kind of skirt had 12 yards of fabric. I wanted to see how that would simulate, having the tiers be 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 yards. It definitely took it a moment for that much volume to settle down in the simulation. #marvelousdesigner

If I'm not giving him sufficient cheek scritches, he will take care of it himself.

Day 27. I wanted to try something more tailored, so why not a motorcycle jacket. This started as the basic T-shirt garment, and then was nudged around and cut. Its really cool to see how adjustments in the pattern change the fit of a garment. #MarvelousDesigner

Day 26. Avatars are the models you place the clothing on, and up to this point I've been using a premade Metahuman. My femme base mesh imported pretty cleanly, with some arrangement point adjustments. This old outfit refitted to the new body pretty easily! #marvelousDesigner

The previous lace pattern is a scan of 17th century Italian bobbin lace. The Art Institute of Chicago put that and other public domain textile scans up on their website for general use: www.artic.edu/collection?classification_ids=textile&is_public_domain=1

Day 25. Opacity in fabric. I wanted to add some lace to fancy things up, which mostly just needs an opacity map to work. #marvelousDesigner

Day 24. Some good men's wear basics: a shirt and slacks. Gotta keep it classy up in here. #marvelousDesigner

Day 23. Trying out some Trim, which are premade objects, like bows, you can add to the scene. Coming off the weekend I was feeling a cozy sweats vibe. #marvelousDesigner

Day 22. Wind! This one is more useful for simulation and posing, but it's neat to play with. It was hypnotic to watch. #marvelousdesigner

Day 21, piping! I knew I wanted to try doing a track jacket, and I found this this neat one from Opening Ceremony on Rent the Runway. The shoulder seams are crazy and I kinda love it. #marvelousDesigner

Ohhh, got my first bot today. That was a fun block!

Day 20. I wanted to try making a garment by drawing directly on the avatar. It got me a neat glove pattern!
January 30, 2025 at 8:09 PM
Day 19, pleats! I started with a simple knife pleat skirt, but it still takes some trial and error. The initial simulation kept getting stuck on itself, so I tried making the folds while it was still flat, which was much cleaner. #marvelousDesigner

Day 18. Playing catch up from the weekend. I tried out lacing a corset, inspired by one I had made in real life. As attempts go, let's call this a Mark 1. #marvelousDesigner
