Another little butterfly that I spotted in a less visited part of the woods. It's common name is a high brown fritillary and as far as I understand, they are quite rare and is currently in decline in Northern Europe. I was barely able to capture this thing as it was very lively and flying around.🦋🟠⚫

A male chaffinch sits on top of a fir and gives it's morning melody. In Denmark we have determined that the melody sounds like the phrase "I can say that as often as I like" with a few stutters in between.🐦🗨️
I didn't want to post this image at first because I captured this straight up into the sky and the bird was so dark, but after a bit of adjustments in shadows, contrast, highlights etc., I thought it was good enough for upload. It looks like a great and majestic pose too!😊💚

All the fire ants are working tirelessly to build their large hives. This capture is from an tree, that has become part of the colonys path, where the ants were climbing up and down. I think the ant noticed me for a moment and wanted a little rememberance photo.☺️ This photo in general reminds me of how I used to get stung a lot by these things as a child and it hurts so much! I didn't stay there for long though. Please be careful when interrupting other's work...🐜🥵

When spring is near, this white flower is one of the first signs you notice when walking about in neighborhoods or nearby woods. The snowdrop flowers hang like tiny bells throughout the forest floor. The usually grow in one small cluster, but sometimes the roots spread like wildfire and grow in a relatively medium area. The can even grow on hillsides with very steep terrain.

A capture of a male pheasant in a danish wildlife reserve. Usually, these birds run away from me when I see them in the wild, so I have never seen one up close. This bird was walking alongside a dugout canal searching for something to eat and was not shy when I rolled up beside him in my car. There's even a reflection of it on his eye if you look closely.

Even though this bird is classified as an invasive species in Denmark, and are allegedly horrible fathers from what I've read, I still think it's features here look absolutely astonishing.

A macro capture of a small branch completely coated in ice. There are icicles hanging down from the more sturdy parts of the branch. Even the sprouts are covered in ice. This is another one of those phenomenons of ice behavior that I'm fascinated about. The reason the branch look like this is because there is a small waterfall nearby, which often splashes on it.

A close capture of a male red crossbill standing on a tree branch. This might be one of my best bird photos so far! I was in a small forest full of bird life and a lot of them came curiously close to my camera as well. This one, however, came out of absolutely nowhere and settled on a branch just beside the path I was walking. I had never seen this species before and for a moment I thought it was a brambling. They have an unusual beak that crosses over and bends. This looks like a young specimen and the beak hasn't quite grown as much as I have seen in other images of the species.

Even though there's currently not much interesting to photograph, I still found a couple of gems like this one. I have observed lichen as a strange and creepy substance since I was a child. There was just something about the odd coloring and otherworldly shapes that made me feel like I should stay away from it. Though I now know that it's just a tree fungus, I still feel a bit weird when seeing them.

On January 3rd a massive storm buried half of Denmark in a thick white layer of snow. My hometown was one of the places where the storm hit the hardest. There were snowdrifts, like the ones pictured here, up to 90 centimeters tall and they stopped all traffic completely. My parents driveway and neighborhood road was not navigable. Since the road is private, the municipality did not clear the road with their snowplowers. Therefore, everyone on the road had to dig a passage through the snow so cars could move trough it. It was rough, but we completed it with some teamwork!Clap Sweating a little...

I was scared that I would not be able to move out because I had taken some time off work to do so, but me and my parents pushed trough and it all ended up working out in the end. ;) (Wink)

The image was taken the day after the storm and shows the smaller snowdrifts, blocked in their path by a hedgerow. They look like tiny dunes!❄️

A macro capture of a row of candlesnuff fungus, growing out of some deadwood. I feel strange about this one. I can totally see a monster on it's way out of the wood underneath the crack with those thin looking fingers. On the other hand, the do look beautiful when they are in their peak of growth. Exactly like a dead tree turned white.
