When I was 9 I think I was reading books in the Fighting Fantasy series - basically interactive game books - and I'm confident they were as maligned as comic books at some point, in terms of getting people interested in reading. But I totally agree about the "hook" - it's absolutely necessary.

For more information about the Friday night massacre at CDC, I wrote up an analysis of who got terminated and what that means for public health.

Grateful to @saveamericamvmt.bsky.social for supporting and amplifying. We are in really terrible trouble.

Highest radon levels I ever saw in a house were somewhere around 18-21 pCi/L. Not sure what rules are in your state, but I'm guessing they'll have you down below 4 in no time. Will also remove basement ghosts.
The autism/circumcision study was an observational analysis - someone noting an association between these two factors. It's where you'd want to start. However, the next step would be to perform multiple analytical studies to see if there's a causal relationship between the two; that was never done.
I know someone that will be excited...
It's like Baywatch Nights, but sewage and stormwater management....
You'd think someone with a degree background in operations management would come to a different conclusion here.
Been a fan since the early 90s. Wish I was able to see them perform back in the day. I also admit I did get teary-eyed watching Gord's last performance in August of 2016 online. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoVs...

We used to commiserate at a bar. Now we're all old and have Bluesky. And probably random lower back pains.
As someone that had my first rear-tire flat at this time last year, I totally empathize. The absolute worst.
Yeah, it was a first for me and a bit confusing. As an adjunct, it also left me a bit concerned, though thankfully nothing came of it. Updated my syllabus and I'm thinking it's more likely to happen again. I hope others are potentially thinking about it now and maybe they will with national news...
I recently had a student tell me they would not complete an assignment because it violated their religious beliefs to answer a question involving a public health scenario with LGBTQ+ individuals. Opinions weren't being evaluated, but rather the application of public health concepts.

Print-and-fold version coming soon, I need to test print it first and can't do that right now lol
So great - thank you for this!
Somebody has been watching too much Curse of Oak Island on History.
When I made my appointment at CVS (I'm in NJ) it specifically said they were the latest/updated vaccines.
Absolute chaos as COVID-19 levels are climbing around the United States. If you told me this scenario was possible after the vaccines were widely released nationwide, I never would have believed you. www.cidrap.umn.edu/covid-19/us-...
US COVID-19 levels continue to climb gradually
Over the past week, test positivity for SARS-CoV-2 rose from 10.2% to 11.2%.

Well, at least they're recommending "proper hand hygiene" as a way to limit spread. 🙄
Argh, just seeing someone else mentioned this. Bluesky threading is still not the greatest.
If you go to this CDC page (it's an archived MMWR from 1999), it covers the Top 10 achievements of the 20th Century in public health. #8 is "Family Planning" and of course we all know that's code for "abortions". 🙄https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00056796.htm

One of the overall goals of public health is remove barriers for access to preventative services and the Secretary of HHS has somehow decided to make it *harder* for many people to receive this vaccination. It's mind-boggling.
