Birds are migrating!
I just finished this new poster for local wild bird rehabber congressofthebirds.org guiding readers on what to do if you find a bird that has struck a window and ways to make your home more bird-safe.

Informational poster titled "What to do if you Find a Window-Strike Bird". Text reads: When a bird collides with glass, the impact can cause brain swelling and internal injuries that
aren’t visible right away. A bird may appear stunned, sit quietly, or even fly off and seem 'okay'— but without help, many die hours later
from delayed neurological damage.

Decals & window treatments
Making the windows of your home bird-safe
Birds often strike glass because they see reflections of sky and trees. Apply bird-safe decals, film, or patterns to the outside of windows. For real protection, space markings no more than 2 inches apart vertically and 4 inches apart horizontally.

Do not let the bird fly away. Contain it immediately for the best chance of survival.
Gently place the bird in a small ventilated box (like a shoebox with holes). Keep it dark, quiet, and safe. Do not give food or water to the bird.

Get help. Bring the bird to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator ASAP! If you are in Rhode Island, contact Congress of the Birds at 401-358-1808.
We have locations in both Providence and Chepachet! We will provide
anti-inflammatory meds, fluids, and oxygen therapy to reduce swelling and help the bird have the best chance of recovery.

Lights out Initiatives

Making the windows of your home bird-safe
Migrating birds use the stars to navigate. Artificial lights confuse and attract them, drawing birds into cities where collisions are common.

Turn off unnecessary indoor and outdoor lighting at night during spring and fall migration to keep birds on course and out of danger.
