Labor is passing laws that are more extreme than what Trump has attempted, on immigration and speech, largely at the behest of the media. But if Trump tried to do it, the same outlets would say they were bad, fascistic overreach. Insanely dumb country.

I actually do think the deeply toxic US version of ‘free speech’ being enforced digitally all over the world with very little regulation has been deeply detrimental to the rest of society. This form of digital imperialism has no place in the world.

There may need a good case to strengthen hate speech laws (though I’m not entirely convinced) but you can guarantee that whatever is being rushed together in response to Bondi is not thoughtful legislation, but a knee-jerk sop to pro-Israel figures. I can’t see why it should be supported.
