Part of its remit is to support the community, so it's cool to see downloads worldwide, reflecting @smbmathbiology.bsky.social's international members. It's also great to see the # of followers on different platforms indicating regular listeners. Go to smb.org/podcast to subscribe if you haven't!
A world map with countries showing where listeners are includes more than 37 countries including: United States, United Kingdom, India, Türkiye, Germany, Australia, Canada, Philippines, Italy, New Zealand, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, South Africa, Mexico, Denmark, Hungary, France, Romania, Sweden, Colombia, Brazil, Austria, Israel, Norway, Argentina, Chile, Poland, Morocco, South Korea, Indonesia, Peru, Finland, Algeria, Hong Kong SAR China, Egypt.

The countries in the darkest shades of blue indicating the highest number of listeners are in: US, UK then India. Graphs showing listener engagement on apple and spotify. Followers: 93 and 219 respectively, time listened (hours) 882 and 162 respectively and number of plays: 1200 and 1225 respectively. Two graphs showing information about the listeners. The first is a donut chart showing that female listeners make up 50% of the audience, male listeners 45%, 4.5% unknown and 0.7% non-binary.
A bar graph of listener age groups shows:
0-17 year olds: 1%, 18-22 year olds: 9%, 23-37 year olds: 23%, 28-34 year olds: 45%, 35-44 year olds: 17%, 45-59 year olds: 6%, 60+: 1%.

This year we wrapped up S2 of Biology in Numbers for @smbmathbiology.bsky.social. I've loved hearing scientists talk passionately about #MathBio. Digging into the data to learn about the podcast’s reach, it seems so do many others.
So here is the podcast by the numbers, starting with an intro. 1/2
A presentation slide entitled "About the show". The text reads: Biology in Numbers is in part the brainchild of then SMB president Sandy Anderson, realized by Heiko Enderling (also as SMB president), and hosted by Parmvir Bahia. Created for math biologists to connect with each other, the wider scientific community and non-expert audiences.

Under the text is a picture of Parmvir and Heiko sitting at microphones in an office. To the right is a graphic of some headphones. A slide with a montage of all podcast guests to-date. Under their headshots is a little graphic of a microphone and text reading:
Our guests have included members and non-members. Scientists from every career stage, nationality and background.
We’ve discussed articles, committees, subgroups, mentorship, industry and roles within the society.

At lunch I found @danielcooney1.bsky.social, who's been diligently sharing all @smbmathbiology.bsky.social related posts. Unsurprisingly, during his episode, we discussed using social media to talk science, and his use of game theory in his work:

Plenary this morning @smbmathbiology.bsky.social by Mary Myerscough (U of Sydney) modeling atherosclerotic plaques. Included a great slide showing why #mathmodeling. The process of formulating models is key (even if it not always leads to a publication).
