“Death comes for us all,” says the 86-year-old actor, in the voice of a character he has played for over 20 years and who has already died multiple times, to an 85-year-old actor playing a character he has also portrayed for over 20 years and who has also died multiple times.

Apart from being a tired and boring trope that should have died out 10 years ago, choosing now to do a gritty, subversive “he’s not a hero” take for the champion of the poor against tyranny who fights for the redistribution of wealth is certainly a choice.

Do I have to have a new year? Can't it be an old one? Sometime in the 90s, maybe.

Lots of discourse about Agamemnon's look in THE ODYSSEY, but I'm just stuck on imagining the voice we'd have gotten from him if Nolan cast Tom Hardy instead.

I don’t know why we’re all still saying that something is “the best thing since sliced bread”.

We’ve got sliced bagels now…

I guess it’s not Christmas unless at least one family member says something completely out of pocket thing to upset you in the morning.

Even if I didn’t already think that any writer doing a dedicated “worst of” list is a hack move - let alone in a publication as major as Variety (that’s the sort of thing you do as a smug, snarky college blogger) - some of those picks just beggar belief.

Stuck around to kiss Josh O’Connor and then made his exit. I respect it.

Inside you, there are two wolves: Tony Kushner and David Koepp

"written by david koepp" can be as much of a threat of a bad movie as it is a promise of a good time and truly there is no way to tell which one you're gonna get until it's too late

We're untold levels of back. The Koepp of it all has me a little worried, but BLACK BAG has proven he's still got the juice, and after all the great performances Josh O'Connor has delivered this year, going into 2026 with a Spielberg film and a Joel Coen film has my stock in him paying off again.

Whether it takes from EYE OF THE BEHOLDER or LONG HALLOWEEN, if rumours of THE BATMAN: PART II doing Dent / Two-Face are true, it means we’re still stuck in the quagmire of Batman films focusing on the same five characters and like THE BATMAN, no matter how good the craft, I’m so uninterested.

When Rob Reiner was on his all-time epic run at the start of his career, he had an opportunity to read a script that was looking for a production partner, and he lost his mind for it. He decided Castle Rock had to have it, no matter what.

I’ll forever think about how Harry and Sally were supposed to stay separated but Rob met Michele while making the film and so believed in love again that he changed the ending and gave us one of the most enduring romantic films ever.
December 15, 2025 at 12:55 PM
It really can’t be overstated how remarkable Reiner’s 80s and 90s were.

Imagine trying your hand at directing a new genre every year and delivering defining entries in them, giving great performances elsewhere, and having your production company attached to the biggest US show of the decade.
