What a thrill to finally share my piece on two of my favorite games: Snake Eater & Guns of the Patriots. I interrogate how Kojima shows us cyclical violent worlds but still attempts to guide us toward non-violence (in sometimes questionable ways).

I am still not sold on Mr Dua Lipa being more than just a pretty face, but Miles Teller and Elizabeth Olsen have such wild chemistry that I kind of fell for Eternity. One of the better romantic comedies in recent years.
Elizabeth Olsen Makes 'Eternity' Worth the Commitment
A24's new rom-com reminds us that Elizabeth Olsen has some serious comedic skills.

we should keep trans icon ozma safe from the very bad filmmakers who would try to capitalize on making more oz content
I'm honestly surprised that with all this renewed interest in the Wizard of Oz that nobody's tried to do a thing with Ozma recently, but I guess studios just assume mainstream audiences are only familiar with things from the 1939 movie

decided on a whim to start reading the bloodborne comic and honestly kind of in love with “the death of sleep” as a short story. appropriately dreamy, casually queer, both playful and melancholic, and pleasantly in tune with translating the cycles of death and rebirth that come with the game.

we, as a culture, should stop doing Best of the Year lists in December and instead just do them all in January when the year has actually ended and there’s actual time to reflect

put together a list of all the 16mm (and a couple of digital) screenings i programmed (and projected!) this year. pretty proud of what i managed to share with folks in miami through the public library in spite of all my limitations. really thankful to everyone who came to any of them.

the sheer amount of art basel fringe fairs, including ones that boast their collection of artists being local and/or underrepresented, using generative AI for all of the advertising and promotions instead of hiring a real artist is beyond depressing

♫ And just to clear the air I ask for Chu's head
for the things he's done to this whole show ♫
Musical theatre has always thrived on the ability of characters being able to convey their thoughts and/or emotions through song, but has it ever felt quite as stupid and telegraphed as this?

Read our review of Wicked: For Good:
Wicked: For Good review – Chu is as much a fraud as his Wizard
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo shine together, but Jon M Chu's second instalment of the Broadway adaptation is otherwise a bloated, unimaginative mess.

I don’t believe it has been changed for the better
