... consistently fall flat for me.

I had convinced myself that we hadn't gotten answers re: Yodo because Ikemoto was saving the information for a future reveal or plot twist... and now I'm just super disappointed.

I don't watch the anime (prefer to read), so I don't even have that as a fix it. :/

Oh wow.

I had missed the reveal of Yodo's death.

And now I need to go have a long sulk because Ikemoto absolutely //wasted// an opportunity for some really amazing emotional payoff.

I think that's my biggest beef with Ikemoto -- he plays to themes and ideas so well, but the emotions just...

I think Shoujo Romance have unbearable amount of love triangles as well (but what do I say it's romance centric story) But it's such an extra if the story with deeper plot and world building to rely on love triangle trope. I want to see something more creative and different to bring in the audience

What I do believe is that trope happen sorely to rise the engagement to get the wider audience with different tastes . Yes maybe it's a fair play to advertise as such but it really does make the characters shallow like you have mentioned, they don't have self-motivated goals nor drives anymore

I guess all the points you have mentioned do play the big role but at the same time, what I have learnt is that even the audience(both M/F) want to root for one ship/pair only while I see very few people rooting for both

It's a comedy and parody show! There are no deep and complex plot but the show mainly focusing on character interaction! What they say is that you can try watching first 3 episodes to understand the pattern of the show !

it seems as if it become a trope and format for Shounen ML to have heroine + Love rival of Heroine . It's become a fixed tradition that started to irritate my eyes to see. Whenever I see Cloud Tifa and Aerith i have to roll my eyes

I hvn't watched cowboy bebop yet....but I am sure there sure are intended love triangles which can give much more complex and deeper relationship . Inuyasha always comes to my mind when mentioning about love triangle (thou I still don't like it personally) i can see why it is needed . But in Shounen
