À bout de souffle/Breathless (1960). Can’t been a day - 65 years and counting - when Jean Seberg’s Patricia wouldn’t have been the most effortlessly coolest looking cat on the block. Could drop her in any decade.

Seberg (2019). Not a great film but if not aware of Jean Seberg’s support of the Black Panther Party and how she was persecuted by the FBI, it’s worth a watch. Kristen Stewart pretty decent.

La Caja (2021). Mexican kid goes to collect remains of his dad and ends up with a harsh lesson about the brutality of labour in a capitalist society. Really good. Available on MUBI, mis compañeros.

Big up BlueSky. Thanks to a @michaeldaly64.bsky.social post, transpires @johnbaldy.bsky.social I are old school friends. Our interests grew from Spider-Man (primary school) to The Prisoners (secondary). Lovely surprise & wonderful to reconnect after all these years. Here we are, front row rascals.

Spending an inordinate amount of time compiling favourite albums of the year. So much really good stuff ain’t gonna make the cut, however much keep expanding the list.

Finally got to see SML at the Church Of Sound in Clapton, and they were every bit as good as hoped. Crazy to think how many great records these five musicians have been a critical part of these past three or four years.

Emma-Jean Thackray at Koko last nite. Big fan of her Weirdo album. “Really groovy music but depressing as fuck - that’s what I’m all about.” ❤️

I don't own many Sonny Stitt albums but this one is astonishing. You can hear Parker and Bechet on one hand (thank you @mariephillips.bsky.social) but also the unravelling of the form that would come with Ornette Coleman two years later. More like this please.

Makaya McCraven at Koko last nite. Sublime demonstration of the art of jazz improvisation as a vibrant communication method. Incredible quartet.
