Paul Weller: Dancing Through The Fire by Dan Jennings (2025). Over last two weeks have listened to at least thirty Jam/Style Council/PW albums. That’s how good this book is. Illuminating portrait of a true artist.

It’s infectious when folk do stuff they love passionately. Like Zyd in his shed: playing records, swigging a cider, cocooned in his own little world. Lovely to see.
New Show for a new year !!
It’s loosely a soul special … sorta ! As in more than a few soul records in this show …. Hope you like it 😃

He’s not wrong ya know.

Although possibly under-selling it. There were a couple of moments I thought Herbie Hancock was recording demos with the JTQ.
This is my new album.

It's instrumental, apart from some crowd chanting on Your Gold, Mr Bridger.

The average tune length is two minutes and eight seconds.

There are fourteen tunes.

It sounds like old telly music.

It's ace.

I'd love it if you listened.

I've love it even more if you shared it.

Who woulda thought a couple of nuns in 1973 would make an album that has, deservedly, got the hipsters of today agog. 🙏🏽

“Morning means ridding the mouth of the stale taste of yesterday” sublime flashes of the surreal in the pompous, judgemental narration of this fantastic archive documentary about three young women sharing a flat in 1960s London

45 Years (2015). Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay absolutely phenomenal in this quietly devastating movie of a marriage suddenly dismantled.

Casque d’or (1952). Not a fan of “period dramas” but this, set in 1890s Paris, feels more gangster noir and thus thoroughly enjoyable. The lads - rich and poor - falling for Marie (Simone Signoret) wear some cracking clothes but have a short life expectancy.

This old episode of MWWS is the rarest (some might say, least listened…), which obv makes it super cool. It’s also been stuck on 199 plays for ages and bugs me everytime I notice. Someone help a needy monkey out… 🐵🚶🏻‍♂️📻 🎭 www.mixcloud.com/markraison12...

'60s Batman was brilliant when I was 7 and didn't get any of the campy post-modern stuff, and it's equally brilliant now I'm 57 and get all of it.
Just watched the very first episode of the '60s Batman TV series. Now there's a show that knows *exactly* what it is from the get-go, the wry, campy post-modern tone and whizz-bang pop art energy are instantly in place. All of this and the Batusi too! It's wonderful.

Under The Skin (1997). Woulda liked to have seen more of Rita Tushingham but saw a lot of Samantha Morton in the rude dealing, best she can, with the death of her mum. Such an unfiltered give-every performance. Good snapshot of ‘97 too.
