Corbat cara sluaig,
Corbat roga ríg,
Corbat cruithnecht chaem,
Corbat craebh co fín.

May you be a friend of hosts.
May you be the choice of a king.
May you be beautiful as wheat.
May you be a bough with wine.

Today's PSA
Seelie & Unseelie are Scots terms, coming from lowland folklore. Seelie, meaning blessed or lucky, is a euphemism for the Good Neighbours that dates to the 15th century. The Unseelie court (unlucky, ungodly group of Fair Folk) is a later addition which appears by the 19th century.

This makes me want to do a whole paper on, specifically, how we got from folkloric fairies to urban fantasy/ romantasy fae, but it would actually need to be an entire book or college course
Turning into my father one "the problem is no one reads enough books these days" grumble at a time

As always, today is a great day to support artists, writers, creators of all sorts. If you have the means, buy a book, sign up for someone's Patreon, commission an art piece. It's also a lovely day to leave a nice comment, post a short review, spread the word about someone's work. Everything helps.

“For the trouble with the real folk of Faerie is that they do not always look like what they are; and they put on the pride and beauty that we would fain wear ourselves.”

"The first Scottish appearance of the term 'fairfolks' occurs in Douglas's translation of the Aenid in 1513. The woods were for long occupied by 'nymphis & fawnys apun euery syde, Quhilk fairfolkis, or than elvys, clepyng we (which we called fair folk & elves)'"

Saw someone say, “Stop hoarding books, we don’t need paper books anyway” and I can’t express how misguided this is. Online libraries disappear, digital books can be altered, and with Big Tech seeking to destroy history and literacy, print media has never been more essential.
