Republicans latest censorship strategy: taxing speech.

Alabama is demanding that anyone who sells content in Alabama pay a 10% "sin" tax and to pay for all the damage it believes the industry does to Alabamians.
Alabama’s new 10% ‘sin tax’ on porn websites will help pay for mental health services, sponsor says

If youre in Ohio, you should really take the time to contavt your state and federal level representatives about Age-verification!
mikestabile.bsky.social
The legislator behind the new Ohio age-verification law doesn't even know what's in the bill. He claims that it excludes social media sites. No such language exists.

This is why you don't push something you couldn't get passed the normal way into an budget omnibus.

www.wkbn.com/news/ohio/ho...
Rep. Josh Williams (R-Sylvania Township), who co-sponsored The Innocence Act, has claimed the measure will not affect social media sites like X. However, the Free Speech Coalition, a nonprofit trade association for the adult entertainment industry, disagrees.

Director of Public Policy Mike Stabile argued that Ohio’s law is particularly vague compared with other states and therefore may result in a variety of platforms choosing to enact age verification measures to prevent legal issues.

“It affects not just porn sites, but any site that might have material that is defined as harmful to juveniles,” Stabile said. “Under the law, I think that sites like X and Reddit and Bluesky may have to begin age verifying. … As we’ve seen in other places, services like Spotify may decide to do it as well to avoid potentially triggering the law.”

This video is actually a really great primer on the current situation, and why we have to develop an absolutist stance on free speech for EVERYONE's sake.

Before the events of Sep 10th, KOSA was reported to be dead in the committee. Now they're using said events as an excuse to try to get the bill through.

Just because the debate guy got killed for his free speech doesn't mean they should take away yours.

Really excellent piece by @thedextriarchy.bsky.social comprehensively laying out the danger in the loss of anonymity in speech — a fundamental right that goes back to before the Revolution — and how it imperils those who are marginalized or speak out.
I've seen the argument that social media services are already a privacy nightmare, so what does one more erosion matter? But there's a huge difference between the default experience discouraging anonymity and users being entirely unable to preserve it. In areas without age verification, it's still possible to sign up for several social media services with email addresses from privacy-protecting providers like Proton Mail using Tor or anonymizing VPNs, creating a reasonable if not perfect amount of friction against easy identification and insulating yourself from leaks. (A new proposed law in Michigan would ban VPNs too, by the way.) The average person may not find this worth the inconvenience, but trans people and non-citizens - or anyone who wants to criticize powerful conservatives, at this point - could find it increasingly necessary if they want to speak online.

Also just adding my 2 cents.

If you're still learning how to draw digitally, you don't NEED Clip Studio. Its tools will not make the process easier for you. There are several free options (Krita, Tahoma 2D, Drawpile, etc.)

It's benefited ME more than other programs have for MY needs.

Since the sale is going around, an important thing to note:

If you are interested in ANIMATION or COMICS, EX is what you want. the PRO version only allows up to 1 second of animation and does not have the multi-page manager for Comic projects (which you don't NEED to make comics tbf)

I'm gonna use this blatant example of someone purchasing adult goods being banned to springboard and say:

Now, more importantly than ever, if you are an NSFW creator using any payment provider for invoicing, you must be CAUTIOUS to NOT INCLUDE ANY TERMS that would single you out as an NSFW artist.

My Paypl account has been banned for buying smutty e-books. Have I done something illegal?

My account got banned a couple of days ago for making purchases which violate the terms of service.
Upon querying with staff over the phone l've been told that it was e-books that l've been buying.
I'm panicking a little bit right now. I haven't done anything illegal have I? The books were mostly stuff about monsters and milking. Some dub-con stuff.
If it is illegal, what do I need ot do to protect myself? Do I delete my e-books?
If the e-books aren't illegal then is the company really allowed to tell me how I'm allowed to spend my money?
Like, is this any different to Halifax or Nationwide forbidding me from buying cigarettes or alcohol at Tesocs?
I'm in England.
