What Governor Pritzker is doing is right for his state, but it is vital for the Republic.

...so I'm excited JMRL Library will join the fine-free movement next year. As a Trustee, it was an honor to vote for this change, and I look forward to showing our patrons that libraries work better when, instead of a punitive system, we work together to cultivate a community of trust and respect.

In the past decade, the vast majority of public libraries in the United States have gone fine-free, because the evidence shows that removing fines increases access and equity, boosts circulation and return rates, simplifies operations, and builds trust and goodwill...

In The Embodied Mind, Thomas Verny draws upon neuroscience, epigenetics, and mindbody research to show that intelligence, emotion, memory, and consciousness aren’t confined to the brain but are distributed throughout the whole body.

Good question! I asked ChatGPT to create a graphite sketch of the Dead Man's Fingers fungus. It came out looking too much like an actual human hand, which in a weird way is a reminder that we share a lot in common with fungi :-) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xylaria...

Yesterday we took our donkeys, Calvin & Hobbes, for a walk in the woods, and Calvin freaked out. We had no idea what scared him, until an hour or so later, when we saw this little guy wandering through our hay field.

I'm working with our #llamas every morning (haltering, walking, feeding, cuddling), and it's paying off; all of a sudden, Magick and I are besties ❤️

Today I received a beautiful email from a woman who received Animals Are People as a Mother's Day gift. She says, "After reading your book, my soul felt validated, and I in turn gifted a copy to my mother." So now I'm a happy author! ❤️

I never see a snake and a rope at the same time. The change is instant. When we reclassify, we literally see differently — categorizing is seeing is believing.

In Connectome (2012), Sebastian Seung describes our audacious effort to map the brain — to understand what makes us unique, from our personalities to mental afflictions.

We all default to simplicity most of the time. In writing Animals Are People, I decided to use "animals" the way most people do, rather than specifying "non-human animals."

Anyway, your book is now a source of inspiration for the new book I'm working on, Natural Information Architecture, so thanks!

In The Moral Circle (2025), philosopher @jeffsebo.bsky.social calls for a revolution in ethics, arguing that we should expand our “moral circle” to include insects, AI systems, and microbes.

An insight flashes into consciousness days after a butterfly flaps her wings in the unconscious. Creativity is like a fungus. Most of the action occurs underground.
