Please read this & help save the State Library of Victoria, entering its 'now fully trashed' era. I didn't go to uni - for me the Library was higher education in later life, research for my job, a revelation about what ordinary people could have access to. It changed my life. Not just a building.
The State Library of Victoria’s ‘major’ proposed cuts include slashing the number of reference librarians and free computers for public access. Some staff are shocked.

SLV is a beautiful, useful and very busy research space, and I use it regularly. I hope that they rethink these cuts & recognise that the library is so much more than a tourist destination.

“Research by the Centre Against Racial Profiling found people perceived by police to be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander were 15 times more likely to be searched than white people in 2024, but were less likely to be found with prohibited items, such as drugs or weapons.”
‘These rates are astonishing’: Victoria Police’s profiling problem laid bare in new report
Victoria Police says its officers are trained to respond to a person’s behaviour, not their background. The numbers tell a different story.

What I like most about Ricky Ponting as a commentator is you get terrific insight & preparation, but not the blokey bullshit that so often accompanies former champions turned media people. The focus is the game, not him, and he talks to, not down to the audience. #ashes

I'll summarise for you: she is another member of the political class, not having worked outside politics. A problem that is rife on both sides of politics and goes along way to explaining why huge segments of the electorate can't see themselves within their own democracy.
Who is Jess Wilson? The Millennial MP who overthrew Brad Battin
Wilson grew up steeped in politics but has made her own way as an MP praised for her energy and efficiency in mastering the education and treasury portfolios.

So important we don't let culture war bullshit get in the way of real solutions.
Yes, your bills have gone up. A bogus culture war on net zero won’t bring them down
Some politicians may want to pretend that climate change isn’t happening. But the costs of not acting are only going to keep rising.

A party once defined by its dissent and debate has become scared of conflict, to the point where its identity is formed not by beliefs, but by a commitment to staying in power no matter what.
