Solo game dev. Glad to collaborate. Making a game about running around. Maybe in a city. Maybe with intelligent NPC and story. Godot, Blender, Trenchbroom are my friends. But I don't know how to use them.

But I think I missed the main point of the question. Should we add an addictive features to improve non addictive games? Will it be a plus?

Commercially, I think, it will. It's easier to sell, easier to spread the world.

From another point of view... It might change the game mood drastically.

Of course it's just my thoughts with no "that's the truth" thinking. I don't want to call games addictive because I like to play them.
mrjackphil.bsky.social
Can addictive game be good? Yes.
Should the good game be addictive? No.
Should the game have a good core loop you want to play and return to? Yes with caveats.
mrjackphil.bsky.social
In those games I do stuff to see a result. I do not necessary like the process but I'm still going because I'm hooked on that "you have the score" thing or when numbers go up.

From my point of view
Balatro is addictive. Vampire Survivors is. I like to play them because they toggle some lightbulb on my head. Or some idle clicker.
mrjackphil.bsky.social
Okay. Then we should define an addictiveness.

Playing Skyrim and thinking "oh just one more quest" and "one more try" in Sifu. Are they addictive? I think not.
mrjackphil.bsky.social
As often it depends on definition. Corpos might say - yes.

I think - no. If I would want to be addicted to the game it would mean I have some issues in real life.

Hello followers new and less new! I'm a game interaction, narrative and custom tool designer with a couple decades of experience in UX research & design, and I want to work with you!

My game Seasonspree included a Simple English option, and I'd love to help more games incorporate simple language!
Looking for contract work!

Interaction design, UX writing, prototyping, usability testing, accessibility, game narrative & puzzle design, user research, video production, custom dev tool design, event organization, logos & branding, team membership & mentorship

Ask for my portfolio! (There's a lot of NDA stuff in there)

@CliftonB A screenshot of Seasonspree with Simple English selected in the Language menu A bunch of futurey sci-fi style interface components for a game, including dialogue screens, maps, and random technical looking data visualizations A screenshot of the still-somehow-in-progress game Keyhole, showing The Ringleader counting a bag of coins from last night's circus performance, his dialogue pointing out that there are some worthless bronze coins included. Other circus performers and attendees are in the background.

Damn... That's harsh...
Don't give up!

But at least now I can spawn items in runtime from the menu. A bottle, for example...

What do you mean I need to think about the game style, theme and overall idea before making an UI for it?

Yeah. Just moving camera and hands using code and animation player in Godot.

Instabuy! Looks cool! You're cool!
Never heard of your game before for whatever reason. Glad I did now.

Let's try it out!
You can find me by nickname.
Or I just created a server (discord.gg/KtehASGr) if it might be more appropriate.
While I would love to collaborate I'm still pretty new to all of this social stuff, ha-ha.

At least I would be glad to chat about game development and stuff. So, it's always welcome!

Decided to create a debug helper. It's a WIP right now. I wasn't thinking about how I want UI to look like. I had some basic ideas but with urge to create an in-game UI I'm thinking to go deeper in UI research.

It's a little bit different, isn't?

Mute button in a preview will not affect the project. You might want to mute the preview but not mute the actual master channel. Like... You can forgot to enable matter channel before create a build.

Just theorizing...
