Working with a new district traffic engineer and learned his personal philosophy is that any street capacity removed for drivers has to be added elsewhere. My projects remove capacity for drivers from overcapacity streets so how does that square with his view (of course they identify as he)?

Fascinating reporting. We have the technology to accurately track aircraft on tablets but instead, Army pilots were told to ignore it and try to see out the windshield like it is the 50's.

Saw the Four Mile Run kayak launch! While I have long launched in a variety of conditions, the out of water ADA platforms are great with kids & easier for adults. Pretty nice although longer models will likely have to be lifted over the railings at the two 90 degree turns #fourmilerun #alx #kayak

Did not get all of the road diets I wanted this year but Annandale Rd from Galanis Dr to Medford Dr in Annandale, VA was a pleasant surprise. With about 14,000 cars per day, I believe this is the highest volume street VDOT NOVA District has approved thus far. #fairfaxcounty #bikeva #annandale

Rode through Arlington's new Army Navy Dr cycletrack! Street was formerly a 6-lane stroad. Overall, this worked pretty well. Busiest intersections have bike signals and the many driveways are narrower with green paint. Plenty of people biking including @yimbyalexandriaken.bsky.social #bikeva

Was talking to someone at a social last week about why highways come down. A key reason is the city has to be at the head of the table, especially as no state DOT lead will consider whether a children can safely ride their bike from one end of the project to another, let alone consider it a success.
Other Upstate cities took charge of their futures:
✅ Rochester led the Inner Loop project
✅ Syracuse led the I-81 Viaduct project
✅ Albany is leading on the I-787 transformation
❌ Buffalo? We were never even at the table.
That ends when I'm Mayor. The City of Buffalo will be the lead agent.
