Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis

For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare

We will keep fighting

The media is framing this as the Supreme Court pausing the rollout of SNAP funds.
While the order requiring the government to pay SNAP is currently stayed, they still could pay SNAP.
The Trump administration is refusing to pay it.

KBJ threaded the needle thanks to CA1’s unfinished business.

-if she denied the admin stay, the full SCOTUS woulda stepped in to override her.
-if she immediately referred the case to the full Court, they coulda dragged feet.
-instead she boxed them in to act quickly once she does refer the case.

Judge McConnell in Rhode Island has ordered the Trump admin to pay FULL SNAP benefits by Friday, November 7.

Two courts have ordered the government to pay SNAP benefits as required by law.
Now, in open defiance of those orders, the President has declared through social media that SNAP benefits will not be paid until the shutdown ends.

When the Supreme Court struck down Biden's policies, it was tempting to think: "At least these limits on executive authority will bind Trump if he comes back into office." But no—the court's skepticism of executive power vanished on Jan. 20, 2025. This dynamic is obvious to anyone paying attention!

Judge: That's what I'll do. Prohibit federalization or deployment of any NG troops into Oregon. For all reasons in prior opinion. Deployment of federalized military is ultra vires and contrary to law, violating Title 10, section 12406. I also find it's likely that defendants violate 10th Amendment.

Oregon: Feels like we're playing a game of whack-a-mole. Your honor said there was no basis in conditions in Oregon for federalizing troops. That caused govt to send in CA NG, we filed motion to enjoin, and then we heard about mobilizing TX NG under same design. So we need to broaden relief.

CA is a party to Oregon's lawsuit. OR has standing to sue. I cannot see how the court's equitable jurisdiction would be limited only to OR National Guard.
The federal government's order federalizing CA Guard can also be enjoined. 🤔
DOJ: Well, CA NG already federalized, and ...

Judge: Anything else you want to argue?

DOJ: Yes, your honor. OR and Portland lack standing to challenge relocation of out-of-state National Guard. Only CA could possibly sue under 12406, but CA can't establish standing or irreparable harm.

"This order should not be read as a final
determination on the merits."
The funds expire at the end of this month. The court without explaining their reasoning has allowed the President to withhold Congressionally approved funds.
This will continue to harm foreign aid programs.
