#Scholastic sent all of these Jory John & Pete Oswald books, but no copies of “Humble Pie.” 😟

Same author, different illustrators. Many will recognize the book on the right. Good Night Moon, written by Margaret Wise Brown. But did you know she also wrote the book on the left? And I illustrated it! Only $7.99! On Christmas Day is available at www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/marga....

We hit the $3800 required to take our bookfair proceeds in cash! 🙂

This is essential since we don’t have an operating budget for supplies, and the Scholastic Dollars catalog is insufficient. Plus, cash (via district office purchase order) can be taken to independent bookstores! ❤️

Book fairs are valuable in our small town, two towns away from the closest book store.

However, as the librarian & an author publisher, it’s growing increasingly difficult to facilitate the excessive quantity of clutter being purchased.

Love this! The concept of play-based learning is why I named my preschool “Academic Play” and my publishing company too! Learning is a side effect of play!
Play-based early literacy builds strong foundations for language, cognitive, and executive skills, making skill-building fun, engaging, and memorable, boosting growth and retention.

See how we explored letter T with book-based activities!

Is there anything more amazing than a baby’s first steps? I don’t think so, but drawing babies is a close second.

It’s one of those days!

My desktop wouldn’t function for the first two classes causing stress & chaos.

Someone must have snuck behind my desk and flipped the tiny off switch on my keyboard and under the mouse. Guessing that child is also the reason my capybara is missing.

It’s so much easier for the Library Kitty to cover my black school tshirts in cat hair when I lay them out in advance. She can cross that off today’s to do list and move on to sitting on the stack of books I plan to study this afternoon.

Yes, I’m old fashioned. I still like tangible books and creating book dummies in #Publisher.
#Microsoft is retiring it?
So I’m paying the monthly fee strictly for Word’s thesaurus? Guess it’s time dust off the paperback version (I’ve had since middle school) and cancel. #Skybrarians

Wearing this shirt as a reminder to myself.
This will be the fourth time we’ve read the chapter when the protagonist misses essential college classes to have his brain tumor surgically drained.
Even the oncologist says the kid is stuck in “a Groundhog Day” loop.
Yet, yay! It’s surgically fixable.

I love these "where we buy our books matter" conversations! And I especially love indie booksellers who practice what they preach. Shop small. Shop local. THANK YOU!!! #kidlit

Yet other indie bookstores get their stock from a single online distributor, unwilling to exert extra effort or risk. 🙁

It took me a month of deliberation, but today I finalized and sent our $2000 book quote using funds donated by the Rebekah’s Lodge. 97 books. 🙂

Loved reading this interview! Joan’s books are found in my home and school collections! Plus, family members’ houses in Kansas. 🙂
This week's interview is with Joan Schoettler, whose new book BOOKS TRAVEL THE WORLD I had the honor of editing. We discuss her journey from professor to author & her passion for cross-cultural stories.

Picture book comps - that's my specialty. It comes from hanging out in an elementary library every morning. Providing suggestions to "I want a book about" is the joy of library life.

But you don't have to be in a library to search for titles. Go to your public library's online portal! #kidlitchat
TOPIC: Queries, pitches, log lines, synopses, comps--all the stuff that someone other than you needs to see (sometimes before they agree to see your work itself!). What are you especially good at? What do you dread? Any tips for coming up with good versions of any of those steps? #kidlitchat

Visited four 4th grade classes this week sharing THE BOOK CAT followed by THE LIBRARY KITTY. It’s so fun to hear their reactions. Especially when they ask for a chapter book version and list reasons that longer books are better. 🙂 #kidlit #Skybrarians #Edusky

This is a wonderful book. As an elementary school librarian, it’s the one I share with classes when a friend is diagnosed with cancer.
WHEN A KID LIKE ME FIGHTS CANCER

(& Angel Chang)
2021, Albert Whitman

An innocent kid. A fight. Discoveries.

When I added Jason Greco’s latest illustration to my dummy, I noticed that he has only three more to go and then the cover!!!Now I know how the Velveteen Rabbit felt when it became real! #kidlit #chemo
Going back to @valleychildrens.bsky.social for his 17th year of outpatient treatment was tough. Yet, with his typical optimism, Jaxon declared "chemo isn't the bad guy." From that sentiment came HEROES NEED HELP - a picture book about pediatric chemotherapy. #cancer #braintumors #kidlit
