NOBODY WANTS THIS x YOU, AGAIN

She sees love as a balance sheet.
He gets paid to read romance novels out loud.
Dating isn't working for either of them, so what are best friends to do?
Start a podcast to figure out what they're doing wrong, of course.

Yay for long cafe stretches! My daughter’s winter ballet recital auditions are this week then we’re in rehearsal season so she’ll be in studio Saturdays from noon to 5. They’re doing The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. 😊

Thank you! It’s pushed me to polish my draft as I go, which I don’t usually do, but I’m motivated to really get this thing in shape.

All the time. Recently, “If the World Was Ending” by JP Saxe inspired a sci-fi idea I might write next.

I don’t have a villain per se in my romcom. If anything the people trying to get between my MCs either want one of them for themselves or are afraid one will break the other’s heart.

In my last wip the villain was actually motivated by their concern for the MCs safety.
msdyliacco.bsky.social
I think it feels a little too convenient but depends on the setup of the story. I would rather either find out the villain was trying to do good all along and was okay being hated or just went on being hateful to the end.

Kit hates them because she likes routine and her usual almond milk latte is available year round. I think Adair pretends he likes them when he’s around friends because he’s a people pleaser. I don’t think he knows whether he actually enjoys them or not.
msdyliacco.bsky.social
I think it ramps up actually. As kids get busier with their activities I’m spending more time in the coffeeshop waiting for them so I get more done. It’s also cozier and easier to just settle in and write.
msdyliacco.bsky.social
I cannot wait for cooler days here in the Bay Area. I’m six weeks into a 16-week novel writing intensive and my goal is to have a really robust draft of this romcom ready for beta reading in the winter.

LUTHER but Sci-Fi

Human-android double homicide wasn’t on disgraced PI Eliot’s bingo card. As more murders occur & clues point to the city’s first Wired mayoral candidate, he must ask his android ex-lover for help to stop the killer. Can he trust her to be on his side?

When best friend Adair’s podcast partner bails at the last minute, Kit agrees to take her place.
They’re supposed to be figuring out what they’re doing wrong in dating—so why does everything feel so right?

🎙️Asian-American MCs

CABIN IN THE WOODS × JOHN DIES AT THE END

When their detective friend is murdered during their annual gaming retreat, 5 dads must rely on years of #TTRPG experience—and puns—to solve the crime before they're all killed off like NPCs in a badly written campaign.

This is a horror movie-style poster for "DAD BODIES" with the tagline "THE GAME JUST TOOK A DAD TURN." The design features a large D20 die (showing numbers 19, 1, 7 and 13) at the center top, surrounded by blood splatter effects against a dark background with a gothic manor silhouette.Six men are arranged around the bottom portion, each showing expressions of terror or shock with hands raised defensively. They're labeled with names: Vincent, Sam, Troy, Hank, Marv, and Dave. The poster includes several review quotes in decorative frames: "I had to stop eating" and "OMG" and "EW! Haha!!" all attributed to beta readers. The poster credits "Written and Directed by B. van Bodegom" at the top and includes a "BIG 5 INTEREST" badge. At the bottom is a movie rating-style disclaimer with "RESTRICTED" rating and warnings about strong language, violence, and adult content.

Friday Write Days are back!
Returning to our regular programming of school drop off then having a morning writing session before errands, pick up, and music lessons.
Does your writing routine have “seasons”? #WritingCommunity

The research alone would be so much fun

Yes! Class, religion, superstition, society rules, turn of the century tech —possibilities are endless
msdyliacco.bsky.social
Colonial Philippines. The dresses, the societal norms and rituals, the different world and local events that were shaping things and creating tension and innovation. So many layers that could affect characters.
msdyliacco.bsky.social
I think it’s a bit of everything. Writing can be such a mentally immersive experience that the mood and tone is set by every aspect of the setting, down to what background characters are wearing.
msdyliacco.bsky.social
Oh no. Overall POV or setting of a scene yes but not the entire setting.
msdyliacco.bsky.social
I don’t. I weirdly can visualize what the interior looks like and which rooms lead to where 😅
msdyliacco.bsky.social
My training is in interior architecture so I like to think big picture like landscape or cityscape but also home in on details like the the color of the walls, the type of door, wall coverings, lighting, furniture, etc. The space people inhabit explain a lot without having to say it.
msdyliacco.bsky.social
I know the general setting—noir-ish city, ancestral home by the sea, NYC in the summer, etc.—because when I’m picturing the sequence of events fully imagining the scenes helps me plot.
