My latest law review article "Securitizing the University" just dropped. It interrogates the university's relationship to the US nat'l security state both historically & since Oct 7. This relationship is at the heart of attacks against universities over the last 2 yrs papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

I don’t work on the Law of Sea, but that regime as well as the laws on the use of force would likely apply to any decision by Iran to close the Strait of Hormuz. An article from 2012 - examining Iran’s threat to mine the strait in response to US sanctions - reached this conclusion:

This is insane. The entire global order is being held hostage by a bunch of megalomaniacs and fascists, using starvation practices/analogies to bend the entire system to their will. x.com/usambun/stat...

When Mahmoud Khalil was first abducted, Chuck Schumer's on-record response was: "If he broke the law, he should be deported."

Trump later needled Schumer: "He’s not Jewish any more. He’s a Palestinian"

We always knew they were just Nazis. The scary thing is that a large proportion of US Jews joined their political coalition specifically to target Palestinians
They used "anti-semitism" as a pretext to deport foreign-born students and chill free speech, and their deportation chief -- the one with the nonstandard Hugo Boss-style greatcoat -- was spouting anti-semitic insults at a US attorney

Something not really discussed on here (for whatever reason) is that Israel was genuinely hit quite hard by the ballistic missile barrages last year and this is the central reason why the US now demands that Iran, on top of accepting zero enrichment, also curtail its missile stockpile

Israel/US reportedly looking to ignite a “spark” to start bombing Iran - trying to bait Iran to strike them first. Today’s explosions across Iran may have been part of this strategy

I remember the illegal US invasion of Iraq. There was so much global push back both at the govt & popular level. Besides some regional govts trying hard to stop this, people are just resigned to this happening. Another illegal US war, another nail in the coffin of intl law x.com/visionergeo/...

If the US bombs Iran on Sunday - as some speculate - it'll likely have been chosen partly 4 its symbolism. It was on Feb 1, 1979 that Ayatollah Khomeini returned to Iran, after 14 yrs in exile, leading to the official fall of the Shah's govt. Sunday is the 47th anniversary of that date.

These analysts are solid on Iran but still caught w/in their Israeli and American perspectives. Iran has ambitions to create a civilian nuclear program - which is its RIGHT under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. But these analysts make it seem like ANY enrichment is unlawful. It is not.

Today, Iran, China, and Russia signed a "trilateral pact" - not quite a mutual defense treaty but still a comprehensive strategic deal between the 3 countries. The development is particularly notable not cause of the US military build up /n

As the US threatens war with Iran, remember that 23 years ago the US engaged in a similarly illegal attack against Iraq - an attack that led to the death of 1 million Iraqis and has continued to foster instability in the country. A short interview well worth listening to: x.com/naime_ataman...

The branch of the federal government exclusively empowered under the Constitution to declare war is powerless to stop Trump's illegal war on Iran because it has spent decades (if not longer) ceding nearly all of its most important powers - from law making to war making - to an imperial presidency

A US strike on Iran wont bring democracy or pave the way for a better future. It will not just decapitate Iran's rulers. It will either destabilize Iran and lead to civil war or securitize the govt even more, strangle Iran's civil society & ensure anyone who calls for pol change is terminated /n

Whatever Trump does in Iran, the use of crippling sanctions, to devastate the Iranian ppl, combined w/threats of war is NOT a strategy Trump invented. Obama pursued the same strategy starting in 2011/2012. Iran hawks, like Bret McGurk and Jake Sullivan, have been part of both Rep & Dem admins. /n
