"Palestinian life remains bifurcated into these two categories—terrorist and victim—separating those who may be eradicated from those who should be protected, making starvation outrageous but the bombing of civilians insufficiently genocidal."

Why it took Palestinians starving for many to finally admit Israel is committing genocide in Gaza
Why has starvation been so crucial in getting some to finally admit Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, as compared to deadlier atrocities? The answer lies in the dehumanization of the Palestinian…

The NY Times is taking its renowned skills at writing obfuscating headlines & applying c it to the Trump admin’s illegal assassination campaign against civilians in boats. You’d think from these headlines the boats had no ppl on them when they were “destroyed” but, actually, 14 ppl were killed.

The cases relating to Palestine at the ICJ are going to build on 1 another. It was already likely ICJ was going to conclude Israel was committing genocide in Gaza in the South Africa case. Seems like this adv op has made that as close to 💯 certain as it could bsky.app/profile/drme...
Humanitarian crisis in #gaza is direct risk to existence of #Palestinian people & their ability to exercise self-determination. #Israel cannot prevent requirements of people in #Gaza to exercise self-determination.

The ICJ has now said what so many have been saying for months - that Israel has NOT proven that UNRWA’s employees are “Hamas” and that the org - which continues to be blocked from entering Gaza by Israel - is vital to providing aid to the Strip. bsky.app/profile/drme...

Looks like the court is making some very helpful statements about the immunities of UN subsidiaries like UNRWA, as well as UN officials and experts. This is important given efforts by private parties & US govt to strip UNRWA, Francesca Albanese, and others of this immunity bsky.app/profile/drme...
Court considers particular relevance obligation to respect priv & immunities of UN, premises & property; of UN personnel; to address any concern regarding priv & immunities within legal framework.

Looks like the ICJ rightly slammed the Gaza Humanitarian Fund as being a ruse that did nothing to alleviate Israel’s legal duties to provide aid to Gaza and instead hurt the people of Gaza bsky.app/profile/drme...
#Israel set up the GHF, which only had a few distribution points, claiming this was necessary to prevent diversion of aid by Hamas. This system did not align w/humanitarian principles, did not meet people's needs, & put people at risk. Other orgs would not collaborate w/GHF.

ICJ torches Israel's notion of 'voluntary' transfer: It observes that individual or mass population transfer are prohibited and that transfer may be "forceable" not only due to use of physical force, but also when population has no choice but to leave due to resulting conditions.

The clip is just 13 seconds long too, so it's a very intentional thing. We've got a Nazi government.

IDF is still shooting people in Gaza
I feel thrown by the widespread proclamations of a glorious, lasting peace in Gaza. A lot even treats “now that it’s all over” as the unquestioned premise.

It still looks like a disaster to me. Am I way off? Are my domestic politics distorting my view? Either the consensus is wrong or I am.

Also the illegal and criminal and immoral strikes against Venezuelan civilians in boats. The “shock doctrine” of committing these criminal strike, of kidnapping and terrorizing immigrants (and frankly anyone who is black or brown) quickly, at scale is normalizing all this bsky.app/profile/unra...
Thinking about how much of their violence has been normalized already, how scenes that caused shockwaves 6 weeks ago are now part of the rhythm of daily life. Watched a TikTok from a daughter who has to do her parents' laundry & get their groceries because they're in hiding. This is just it now
