Tonight me and my whānau got to see the official mayoral portrait done by Pōneke artist, Clark Roworth. This felt like a lovely end to this chapter with my mana intact and we will leave behind a progressive long term plan for the next council. I’m proud of of us 💚

And to top it all off, it was a political accident - Seddon wanted to see the back of the issue, thought he had the numbers to defeat it if he introduced it, but his gamble did not pay off. Argh I hate everything about this particular mythologising argh argh argh.

Even the predicate isn't true! We were a colony, not a sovereign state. Similar territories were ahead of us eg Wyoming 1869, Utah 1870. The 1st sovereign state may have been Hawai'i (gender neutral term in 1840 constitution, changed afterwards). Pitcairn was in 1838 and kept it ever since.

Seeing the Bill Watterson originals full of pencil lines of stuff that didn’t work, scuffs the eraser didn’t pick up, white out galore and more was something I needed to see to remind myself that nothing is perfect the first go and tweaks need to be made and you’re allowed to try again.

Tautoko. I might personally think the decision is wrong and the proposed at grade crossing and/or new bridge is terrible for the city, but the decision's been made, confirmed as lawful, and they should just get on with it. I feel like that eternally screaming badplace account atm.

Just to clarify - AT don't have to remove them. They do have to reconsider the decision in accordance with the specific statutory test, which requires them to form the view that they won't impede traffic. If they form that view, no need to remove.
