WTO/99 Is a Documentary We Need To See Right Away
Despite being composed entirely of news/found/archival footage (no talking heads, no voice over), the documentary WTO/99 nevertheless has the aspect of a dream.

In Milton Friedman's Capitalism & Freedom, it's suggested that, once the government becomes minimal, the thing to do, if you want to create art or just survive, is befriend a billionaire. Though still unhelpful, this advice now sounds less nuts than it did when Friedman published his book, 1962.

Old buildings imitated rather than reflected other buildings: mass-produced moldings of ancient pillars, brick-hard materials, formidable facades. The reinforced seriality of capital. Now money reflects other reflections of money like a universe that appears as endless because it's made of mirrors.

It Took Me Two Years to Ditch My Awful Couch, and for What?

Only an ignorance of economics can see this as something to write home about. Those prices are now stuck up there. They will not go down unless demand collapses (depression=deflation). And so the only solution at this point is to raise wages, which, obviously, will not happen. This is a distraction.

This is backup in our polling data as well. 65% of the respondents between 30 and 44 plan to vote for Wilson, and 59% of respondents 18-29. But it's all about turnout. When we narrow the sample just to likely voters, this race gets tight. www.thestranger.com/stranger-pol...

And so we see the real here. Soon there will be no American capitalist not tied to Trump's funny money. This is the afterlife of neoliberalism.
Column: Yes, the pictures of the destruction of the East Wing were shocking, but not so shocking as all the things we don’t know about this project, which is being paid for by some of the wealthiest people and corporations on the planet.
Column | Demolition is part of Trump’s master builder image
By Thursday, the White House’s East Wing was gone. The speed of destruction, and the projection of power, are part of the strongman playbook.
