No-one ever followed Darlington for glory but case to be made it’s the most unrewarding club to support in England’s pyramid in 21st century: 18th in Nat League North but buzz around club today in FA Cup, over 2000 there, lose 6-0.

“You don’t have a period but that’s fine. You’re an athlete.” A caveat accompanying countless medical results, despite inevitable danger, lines being drawn between sacrifices periods + sporting success. A piece for my sister + those challenging the system. www.nytimes.com/athletic/658...
In women’s sports, athletes losing their periods was long considered normal. Not anymore
A byproduct of wider issues, periods continue to be missed, ignored or misunderstood in elite sports

Brilliant by Michael O’Neill’s young squad tonight. Real shame about Conor Bradley suspension but Germany on Monday night in Belfast could be electric.

Harvey's reputation inside club was as tireless worker, spotter of talent – on a budget. Value of squad – and club – rose via promotions with players like Hume, Ballard, Clarke. Collective effort but as statement says, Harvey was integral. Ghisolfi arrival signalled change in approach/spending.

"This boy will go to Real Madrid if we don't get in quick..."

Loved doing this with Dave Worthington, going through his old scouting reports from Bolton, Chelsea, Hull, Sunderland, West Ham, Leicester, Everton — recommending Benzema to #CFC, young Rodri to #EFC etc

UEFA has approved a landmark move to allow Italian and Spanish domestic league matches to be staged abroad while reiterating its “clear opposition” to the plans, which it has granted “on an exceptional basis amid regulatory gaps at global level”.

Bill McCracken: the greatest Irish and Newcastle United player of them all? Probably. Delighted to get a copy of Paul Joannou’s new biography of the forgotten brilliant thinker, a man The Guardian called “the Irish Mephistopheles”.

Sacking managers is easier and cheaper than sacking players, but still costs money.

It might happen again at #MUFC. Or it might not

Either way, here's a look at how much they've spent on managerial changes since Sir Alex Ferguson retired

Tony Harrison RIP
I taught Long Distance, his beautiful & honest poem about bereavement to my students for decades.
Eventually, it provided consolation to me as well.

In the late 19th century, millions of migrants left Germany as a result of religious persecution, economic hardship, and political uncertainty.

Among them was Nikolaus Schrod, a cabinet maker from Frankfurt who - along with his wife Bina - moved to London to start a new life in the 1850s. 1/3
