Short 🧵: One thing I don't see discussed regarding the whole likely implosion of the AI bubble is that Silicon Valley brought this upon itself by profoundly misunderstanding where human beings are at right now.

Frey vote share was negatively correlated with share of workers that take transit, housing cost burden, share renters, share non-english speakers and share BIPOC residents.

I don't know what to call them but there's an entire genre of web comic structured like this and I just do not get it.

Panel 1: A vaguely drawn blob person
Panel 2: A turtle
Panel 3: "Hi I have a piece of cake do you want one"
Panel 4: "Yes thank you"

And that's it.

Last day to pile in! I'm beyond stoked that all the Fables have been funded. The news just keeps getting better. What an incredible effort and result from y'all.

Art folks, what kind of daily / weekly exercises do you perform to keep your edge? I'm looking into adding dedicated practice time to my schedule and need inspiration.

Today's reminder that Reddit is full of awful people, a thread about whether Good Time's Connie is "pure evil" has far too many defenders of his behavior. They think Connie's "love for his brother" means all the evil shit he did isn't actually very evil or something?

Also, my peeps, if you're skeeting a fucking wall of text, you should copy that wall, and PASTE IT INTO ALT TEXT!
Go to SETTINGS>ACCESSABILITY > REQUIRE ALT TEXT and slide the slide to on.

Anonymous shout out to all the folks running my polling place. Smooth, hassle free, nothing but smiles inside.

5/5 stars. Would vote again.

Whew, I've caught up on my "quick review every feature I watch in 2025" goal.

letterboxd.com/mrhen/tag/20...

144 reviews so far. I've stopped trying to cross post them here because it was frustrating squishing thoughts down into a single post. But hey, still got them done!

I can understand people not knowing the annoyingly philosophical definitions of terms like "objective" and "subjective". But at some point you'd expect them to realize they aren't understanding the question being asked.

But it's not at all a surprise that /r/letterboxd is smugly incorrect about it.

/r/letterboxd yet again got distracted by debating "objective quality"

I've said it before, but when you think it's fine for "some people" to suffer, you find more ways to justify others' suffering.

Often, you decide anyone who's suffering falls into the "deserves it" category.

And that category grows. And maybe you lie about someone being in that category.
Others have said this more eloquently, but it's on my mind today: I trust those for whom a better world means dignity and health and care even for their enemies, and I distrust those for whom a better world requires that everybody who reaps the benefits be on the same page as them.

One bizarre side-effect of demolishing a third of the White House is that it made filming anachronisms a whole lot more likely. Productions now have to worry about whether their political drama/thriller happened before or after 2025.

Sometimes I return to smaller online communities that I've drifted away from and discover them still talking about the same parasocial celebrities covering the same drama and the same topics and the same everything.

I guess I'm glad they're happy? But something about it feels stagnant and dead.

I haven't read the story you're referencing, but the concept of feeling fundamentally misunderstood is a classic symptom of autistic expression.

You say something to be interpreted literally (I sometimes like french toast) and somehow it's interpreted to mean the opposite (you hate french toast).
Samantha is taking away the certainty of meaning that Charlotte has over their own language and authoring it, without discussion or musing or understanding.

Its a nightmare, to have abandoned parts of yourself exploited until they fit the narrow gap of meaning someone else has for it.

Here snippets between a writer and myself where we use making a BLT as a way to discuss why focusing on intent is often not helpful when responding to feedback.

You might be trying for a BLT. But if your audience is happy with a BL, they aren't going to understand why you're talking about Tomatoes.

Hi. I wrote an essay about AI slop: How it feels like an invasive species for the internet. How its boosters describe building a future that’s devoid of craft. How frictionlessness can be nihilistic & how this stuff seems to leach part of our shared humanity out of the world. I hope you'll read it.

Moments like these are when I briefly ponder how disastrous it is that a single website houses such a large percentage of the videos humanity has created.

I wish corporate training resources would enable the speed controls for the sake of accessibility. The videos go too slow for me to pay attention to them. I want it at 1.25x or 1.5x. I'm sure others would prefer it at 0.75x.

Please let us control how we best consume training materials.
