Yesterday this Stellers Jay was making a hawk-like call, in addition to its normal squawking, before coming to the de facto bird bath for a drink. It was the first time I heard a Jay imitate another bird’s call. #birdsky

Anecdotal field report, subject: COVID. My mother has tested positive and is extremely sick. I have been with her off and on this week, but I am so-far-so-good. I had it last May, which maybe helps.

There is a little food cupboard in my neighborhood. Like a little free library but for food. I have been putting things in there—tuna, mac ‘n cheese, some shampoo and paper towels.

So many good local nonprofits have lost funding due to the big ugly bill and need all our support—our local food bank, senior center, art center, public radio, health clinic. I have written many checks and I’m happy to help and lucky to be able to give something but I can’t keep this up.

I was a little girl during Watergate and one thing I remember is that the scandal unspooled slowly over a period of a couple of years. The Epstein scandal could do the same. Bits dribble out interspersed with bombshells and it takes time for the whole picture to emerge.
