'Europe's housing crisis is a democratic time bomb'
Young people across many European regions are struggling to access decent housing, observes Marie Charrel in her column. The difficulties and frustrations this causes have clear political consequences.

ALSO - RTE etc. should stop reporting on Enoch Burke's every movement. Let the courts/guards deal with him, but putting him front page everytime he shows up at the school is what those headbangers want. Starve them of attention. We have choices about what to do!

It might be just me, but I don't think public bodies should be posting photographs of children to the 'makes sexual images from photographs of children' website.

I’d you haven’t been following the story please read the Gist from Simon.
New Gist: The Abuse Factory

It shouldn't be difficult to act swiftly and without hesitation when the question posed is "Is it OK to work with the child sexual abuse material factory?" But our state failed this most straightforward of tests this week.

X, the child abuse imagery app, revealed our state has no red lines. This is the Gist.

This is
1) flat wrong on the facts
2) flat wrong on the law
3) flat wrong on the impulse to shield a company from the consequences of its own actions in offering the creation of CSAM-as-a-service

This is the sort of morally bankrupt statement that should have its speaker be booed off every street
My word. (Again.)

Media Minister Patrick O'Donovan: "At the end of the day, it's the choice of a person to make these images... technology is moving so fast... even if the law is changed there's no doubt about... the advances are far faster than law is able to respond..."

Imagine if your house was burgled and you had to pay €100,000 to bring the perpetrator to justice. Nobody would think this is right.

This is exactly what the state wants to do when it breaks the law relating to the environment.

If you think this is unfair or wrong then read on ⬇
Financial barriers to environmental litigation are against the law, because protecting the environment is an important public interest.

The government now wants to make it super expensive (>€100,000) for ordinary people to go to court to protect the environment

Anyone know of charity orgs that can accept One4all credit card type donations? Lots of people have them with a random few quid that could go to better use than being swallowed by the monthly charge when it kicks in.

Coffee thoughts:

Ireland is a polity where you can go and visit a Minister in a constituency office on a weekend to ask for help filling in a form.

The distance to/from officeholders is effectively zero.

But the distance for most people from *power* can be (invisible to them) huge.
