I definitely associate it with TTRPGs and board games. I have played a lot of board games with characters that "level up" so it feels very natural to use it as a board gaming term. For example I might describe a game to someone as having characters that level up as you go.

I was accepted into Mensa as a teen. When they tried to charge me a bunch of money I was like "Oh, never mind." I didn't even have a job. Or maybe that was when I was working at the public pool for like $2.35 an hour. Good times!

Finished final season of "Alice in Borderland" about a week ago and must say that this is one of those rare shows where each season is as strong as the first. Could have come up up with a thousand explanations and endings but I feel like they landed on exactly the right spot. The theme was on point!
