I had a cassette tape of Elton’s greatest hits in my first year at university that I played non stop. At the time, 18 year old me thought that the songs on it were ancient. That was in 1984, only 11 years after this song was released. Now I feel like the 1990s were just 10 years ago.
Well, well, well.
This ✨ Research Highlight ✨ discusses that, despite previous hopes that CBD might buffer cannabis harms in schizophrenia, a recent RCT found no protective effect, & even potential exacerbation
For those with schizophrenia, does cannabidiol make cannabis use safer?

Richer than Croesus plus poisonous ideology gets you this. The terrifying thing is that these people are now able to buy anything or anyone.
What Thiel is saying about tax havens = what Altman is saying about copyright:

"I can't be rich unless you let me steal from you."

This is how Broligarchs differ from oligarchs of yore: the latter tried to hide their thievery; the Broligarchs trumpet their entitlement to steal as a natural right.
Picturesque, family friendly Millport with its delightful Victorian promenade inundated with washed-up sex toys. Get ‘em before they’re gone (many dishwasher safe)! www.thenational.scot/news/2552366...

I love a bit of Michael Buerk so long as he’s not reporting from Korem. It’s still harrowing to watch.
And I’m certain that he’ll still expect to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for all the wars that he has brought to an end (I’ll be amazed if Hamas accept the terms of his Gaza “deal”).
The president just gathered the highest ranking officers in the military to tell them that he may order them to kill American citizens -- and that they better follow his orders. All in response to a series of crises that have no basis in reality.

I don't know how to yell any louder.
Interesting piece. This paragraph in particular contains information of which I was not previously aware.

I am aware of the joke in question. Perhaps you would like to explain that one? There is a character limit on Bluesky which prevents a dissertation on the history of comedy.
The premise of the joke is that Jimmy Carr is (purportedly) an edgy comedian who is/will be performing in Saudi Arabia. His name could be misheard as “did you make her”. Hopefully, if you replace “Jimmy Carr” with “did you make her” in the original post, it makes sense of the joke.
Deazaguanylation - snappy. Does what it says on the tin but.
New research published in @science.org led by @danafarber.bsky.social’s Doug Wassarman and @kranzuschlab.bsky.social reveals new protein chemistry named deazaguanylation that controls activation of immunity.

Interesting.
Out for a while but forgot to post it. Using pupil size as a proxy for arousal, we show that the inverted-U shaped arousal–performance curve (Yerkes-Dodson law) is not fixed, but can shift globally depending on neuromodulatory state (atomoxetine): arousal recalibration www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Talk of “following through” is highly appropriate.
That’s a beautiful picture of Keith. We used to get the bus to school together and he reminded me a few years ago that he used to borrow my Smash Hits magazine on the journeys. He brought so much joy to the world.

I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore.

So I wrote a blog about ten things you can do *right now* to help defeat Farage, Musk, and rightwing populism.

From scrutinising Reform councillors to demanding the UK Govt leave X - get involved:

This seems like good advice the way things are going but actually pretty complicated for those of us of a certain vintage. How do you sign up for this stuff without using traceable personal details? Burner phone for 3 factor verification etc? Make up the rest?
Everyone, post anonymously. Wear masks. Use VPNs. Do whatever you need to do, including completely reinventing yourself online with new nicknames and so on. It's getting serious. You think ICE is going to stop at immigrants? We're next and they've as good as said it just now.
@robinince.bsky.social - tell the truth. How much of tonight’s show was “The Universe & the Neurodiverse” that you did at the Fringe? Because a lot of it was “Ice Cream for a Broken Tooth” (minus the tap dancing).
