Reviewing proofs of a chapter. Copy-editor just jumped to "most trusted" status by recognizing the allusion to Shakespeare I put in one sentence.

Hey, if you're in psych and use longitudinal data, you'll want to read this.

If our theories have to do with people's daily experience then we really need to know how well we're measuring daily experience.

So we need more of what Kevin's team is doing here! Just because your item has the right words in it doesn't mean you know what it measures, or how well.

Great description of some complications in making sense of loneliness data and apparent increases over time (in some age groups)...
I started reading up on the whole "loneliness pandemic" narrative because this seems like a literature where the age-period-cohort problem may be relevant (or maybe it isn't?).

Here's data from Australia (HILDA), average agreement with the statement "I often feel very lonely" (SD of ca. 1.8).>

Really useful thread both for people who aspire not to be "helicopter parents" and psychologists who want to measure... Well any psychological construct really.
🚨Excited to share a new exploratory measurement paper! There are *many* instruments measuring “helicopter parenting” in young adults, but items on those instruments are all over the place.

What did young adults tell us about how well different items fit with a definition of HP?

Numerous instruments assessing helicopter parenting exist, but items within and across scales are diverse and often describe behaviors that are incongruent with...

Hello! I would like to become fluent in ASL pretty quickly. Is the best way to take classes at the local community college or is there more immersion out there for working people? (We want everyone in the house to be fluent.)

Thank you! Happy to DM.

Hrmph. Report of EMDR for adolescents with social anxiety disorder that concludes that EMDR works well. No control group, the main social anxiety measure (LSAS) has a "mean" of 147.00 at baseline (I believe the literal max is 144) and effect sizes are ginormous.

Project Implicit is facing an existential threat. After almost 30 years, 60 million visitors, and hundreds of published papers, funding for our work has disappeared.

We’ve never held a fundraising drive before, but we need your support to keep our site running. Please consider donating! 🙏
Project Implicit is a research nonprofit behind tools millions use to understand bias. Like many public science orgs, sustaining this work has become increasingly difficult. We are at risk of closing without additional support.

Area dog had a tooth extracted and must eat soft food. He's always had dry kibble in the past. You might expect him to be excited, but whether it's wet food from a can or his usual kibble soaked in water, he looks at me like surely I'm kidding, where's the real breakfast (and then eats it though)

Maybe your representative is quite liberal and you are guessing that they already support impeaching RFK. Well, they probably haven't signed on yet to the existing articles of impeachment!

I called mine today to encourage her to support this effort. @foushee.house.gov
Lots of people asking about who has co-sponsored the articles of impeachment against RFK Jr. w/ @rephaleystevens.bsky.social. The answer is Rep. Eric Swalwell.

This is why we need people power NOW.
Sign the petition & call your rep asking them to co-sponsor:

🚨 Today, I formally introduced articles of impeachment against Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

RFK Jr. has turned his back on science and the safety of the American people. Michiganders cannot take another day of his chaos.

For the last several mornings I've been challenging myself in my language learning by reading a news article in Norwegian first thing. So this morning the usual "ok what does that word mean" was accompanied by an extra layer of "wait +what+ is this saying?"

I see @springernature.com 's bio says they are "empowering researchers" so surely they will address this quickly?
@springernature.com can you please do something about this!? I have paid open access fees to your journal, and yet you cannot send papers to NCBI? The scientific community reviews for free, are editors, and now has to pay exorbitant open access fees while our grant dollars continue to decline!

Today I repaired our dryer and after seeing inside there I'm amazed those things don't break down more often. I didn't expect crucial elements to be made of felt, nor for the whole caboodle to depend on a belt that's less than an inch wide!

I recently read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, mostly known today as the book Blade Runner was based on. Not surprising given it's Philip K Dick, the book is far weirder than the resulting movie. Here's a few highlights... (No real plot spoilers)
