I wrote about my five days in Israeli prison for the LRB. Remember with every paragraph that this is the cosseted version of the experience; it is infinitely worse for Palestinians www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2025/oc...

Palestine Action-linked prisoners have been on hunger strike for three weeks now, with hardly any media attention. We need to stand with them and amplify what’s happening m.independent.ie/opinion/naoi...
Naoise Dolan: My hunger strike experience pales in comparison to Palestine Action activists’ plight
A co-ordinated prison hunger strike has been ongoing for three weeks and has gained hardly any media attention.

Israel has killed at least 280 people in Gaza since the ‘ceasefire’ took effect. ‘The fragile ceasefire’ is a hand-wringing euphemism. It’s not fragile. It’s broken.

The Irish language is in an all-time underfunding crisis, with Gaeltacht housing ever more unaffordable and record secondary school exemptions. Rather than lowering our expectations, we need to fight for Irish and for everyone’s chance to access it m.independent.ie/opinion/naoi...
Naoise Dolan: We need to create an Ireland where everyone can become fluent in Irish
On a grassroots level, it could not be clearer: Irish people want to learn Irish. An island-wide Údarás na Gaeltachta study found last year that 74pc wish to improve their level.

Apartheid, genocide and colonial occupation showed themselves out of the World Sailing Conference in Dún Laoghaire today due to the actions of ordinary people. We can win when we stop waiting for our useless government to stop supporting Israel and simply do it ourselves

Bíonn na daoine seo ag caint faoin nGaeilge mar a bheadh comhartha stádais inti. An fhírinne ná gur mionteanga í, agus nach bhfuil muid ag iarraidh ach na caighdeáin chéanna agus an meas céanna a thugtar d’aon teanga eile

Lots of flotilla people at today’s blocking of Dublin port. We sailed not as a once-off gesture, but to build on it with direct action at home. Israel does not care what we think; the only way to impact the situation is by directly challenging the blockade and disrupting the flow of money and arms

Pandering to the far-right is both dangerous and ineffective. We already know from Germany, France and the UK that it only legitimises fascists. We need a positive alternative vision instead m.independent.ie/irish-news/p...
Naoise Dolan: Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil’s lurch to the right on immigration will only create space for fascists to thrive
The message seemed clear from Catherine Connolly’s landslide presidential victory: ordinary Irish people want a robust new vision, not a bargain bin version of far-right talking points.

At some point someone is going to get killed, and Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael’s response will be to bicker over who’s faster at deporting people (who were forced to leave their country by EU imperialism in the first place)

Naoise Dolan: Catherine Connolly’s victory won’t fix our many woes, but it is a sign the tide is turning
The first time I saw Catherine Connolly speak was at a Palestine protest in Dublin in May. It was lunchtime outside the Central Bank and perhaps 30 people were there.
